The GOP establishment is rallying around a new frontrunner to replace Jeff Flake

Republican Rep. Martha McSally of Arizona is emerging as the GOP establishment's favorite to replace retiring Sen. Jeff Flake.

But McSally could run into trouble in a possible run against Republican opponents including former state Sen. Kelli Ward — who is backed by former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon and pro-President Donald Trump media — for past comments critical of Trump.

US News and World Report reported Thursday that McSally was taking steps toward launching a campaign for Flake's seat, as she indicated interest in the vacancy during a closed-door meeting with the rest of Arizona's GOP House delegation. The news came after three of Arizona's other GOP congressmen — Reps. Trent Franks, Paul Gosar, and David Schweikert — ruled out runs for Flake's seat.

GOP sources told the outlet that McSally has become the consensus candidate of lawmakers and donors, with one congressional aide saying she's expected to run.

Playbook, page 3 - if an incumbent will potentially lose to a conservative challenger, force incumbent to step aside, so replacement candidate can be nominated to thwart such conservative challenger from securing the nomination.

And that will be her albatross in that she now has a record of stabbing the Tea Party in the back that she rode to Congress.

Gop consultard/ establishmentard logic : If a Rino incumbent is badly losing to a conservative challenger, find an exact replacement of the incumbent and run him or her against the challenger.

I don’t think she could carry Pima County let alone the state. Of all the Republicans state-wide she is the weakest candidate. The fact that she is considering a run for Senate is pure hubris.

Trump met with Jeff DeWitt and Robert Graham about running against Flake back in August. Perhaps one of those two should be the one to support?

Martha is another RINO. She refuses to support Trump or even give him credit for any good deeds. Her biggest accomplishment is saving the A-10. Woop te do!

Dewit. I am afraid Kelli Ward will have a hard time against the DEM Sinema, but McSally is a Rino and unpopular.

This BS statement says more about the true insidious nature of Business Insider than about the AZ Senate race.

I was listening to a religious radio station yesterday with some talk show on, not sure if it was Jay Sekulow, may have been.

But the airtime was being taken up by an interview with someone from “Club for Growth” listing almost every Republican politician in the state except Kelli Ward as a potential replacement for Flake.

The Republican Establishment even uses religious broadcasting to push its agenda.

We’re now starting to WIN these battles. Sally can try, but Kelli has Trump’s and Bannon’s following and that’s all that is needed. The only thing that worries me is if McCain goes back home to North Vietnam soon and has to be replaced...then things get interesting there soon.

They’ve been doing that and whole lot more to conservatives and patriots in this country for too long.

Their game of seducing us every election cycle only leads to us getting (word of your choice) afterwards.

My hope is that Ward is not another Katherine Harris. Given the nomination for past deeds only to lose.

Donald Trump did tweet something positive about Kelli Ward earlier this year.
