More doesn't work in the Democrats' case. You ever notice how the media never praised or even said a word about how diverse the GOP field was in 2016, and how the Democrats were aging white people? Also the GOP field was diverse politically; you have RINOs, libertarians, populists, and social conservatives.
No matter who the Dems' field, they will all share the same ideology and appeal to a narrow swath of voters who will vote for whoever wins the Dem nomination anyway.
