SAN FRANCISCO -- A plan to split California into three separate states has cleared its first hurdle. Supporters are set to begin collecting signatures to qualify for next year's ballot.
"Creating three new governments three new legislatures, three new governors and then having to disrupt what we have as a state all our prison systems, our higher education systems," said political analyst Steven Maviglio. "I think diversity is what makes California great and this would actually ruin it."
If the measure were to make it on the ballot and be approved by voters it would also still need permission from Congress.

They want to do this for no reason.
Bahh, You just made that up !
Californian’s think they can run roughshod gerrymandering the legislature!
Do all the dope smoking conservatives realize that its a Federal crime to transport marijuana over state lines?
Some inland Nor Cal counties are red too but they are sparcely populated. All the facist moonbats in the Silicon Valley, the SF bay are and Napa Valley make Northern California a solid blue state.
That’s no bueno. Not happening.
Serious question: what about West Virginia?
If this works, Ill-Annoy can have Chicago (aka Rahmabad) with Crook County (aka Madiganistan with Rahmabad as it’s capitol) could divide it up nicely with the balance still called Illinois. California leads, Ill-Annoy follows.
Can’t wait to ask my elderly cousin in Anaheim what he thinks.
Who gets stuck with the tab?
Specifically who is stuck with their unfunded retirements and inadequately secured loans?
Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii would probably want to join California, or California-3, which would cut off the United States from the Pacific Ocean-very serious.
And if we open this up then maybe there would just be an almost total split with most Red States wanting a divorce from New York, Mass., Illinois, etc.
I’m not saying that’s necessarily bad, but it must be consider very carefully.
Constitutional Law.
great. thanks
