Washington (CNN) — A federal grand jury in Washington, DC, on Friday approved the first charges in the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller, according to sources briefed on the matter. The charges are still sealed under orders from a federal judge.
Plans were prepared Friday for anyone charged to be taken into custody as soon as Monday, the sources said.
It is unclear what the charges are. A spokesman for the special counsel's office declined to comment.
Mueller was appointed in May to lead the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Under the regulations governing special counsel investigations, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who has oversight over the Russia investigation, would have been made aware of any charges before they were taken before the grand jury for approval, according to people familiar with the matter.
On Friday, top lawyers who are helping to lead the Mueller probe, including veteran prosecutor Andrew Weissmann, were seen entering the court room at the DC federal court where the grand jury meets to hear testimony in the Russia investigation.
Reporters present saw a flurry of activity at the grand jury room, but officials made no announcements.

Mueller is authorized to investigate "any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation," according to Rosenstein's order.
The special counsel's investigation has focused on potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, as well as obstruction of justice by the President, who might have tried to impede the investigation.
CNN reported that investigators are scrutinizing Trump and his associates' financial ties to Russia. Mueller's team has also examined foreign lobbying conducted by former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, former national security adviser Michael Flynn, and others. If it’s both Flynn and Manafort, then we’ll know how scared they are of the dossier backfire bomber and Uranium One scandals. Or they are saving Flynn for a couple weeks, to re-ignite the media in a couple weeks. I can’t decide.

If it’s Manafort, it will be something that happened long before he was associated with Trump or the campaign. Mueller had an open ended order given to him - he can go all the way back to Manafort in his grade school days for tripping a kid on the playground. THAT is this ridiculous!
AND it will be done for no other reason but to cause heartburn in the WH, you can bet! The whole thing is rotten to the core!

I’m sure we’ll be hearing all kinds of stuff between now and Monday just to get our hopes up. I would HOPE this is true but I don’t think I’m going to count on it... We all want to see some of the Clinton crime gang go down but when has THAT ever happened? They say there is a first time for everything - let’s keep our fingers crossed this weekend that it is true!!
Hard to believe, if the indicted person is Trump connected, no name has leaked yet.
I don't think the Beltway has any idea how serious the rest of the country thinks this whole mess is and how closely we are looking at their every move. As someone said, this is like 1776 and 1865, a huge time in our country's history. What shakes out in the next 3-6 months will determine the direction of our Sacred Republic. It's either full on commie or back to a Constitutional Republic. Eternal Vigilance. . .
I haven’t read through all 800+ replies here but has anyone seen anything related to WHO leaked this to CNN last night? I wouldn’t be one bit surprised if it was Mueller or one of his 11-13 Clinton backers/investigators. They had to get the news to CNN on a Friday night..
Who was it this week on FOX - Huckabee or possibly Newt who said that this whole mess plus the uranium story is going to be the biggest scandal ever in the history of our country/politics. People will be saying “What was Watergate about?”
yup...had my ipad next to my bed last night with this thread and kept refreshing for updates whenever i couldn’t sleep...i’m going to be a nervous wreck as well but remember- like everything else with our wonderful President this is just a bump in the road and its short term pain that will eventually yield long term gain...

Your worry (same as mine and I suspect many others) is just another symptom and sign of the seriousness of the problem we Americans are facing at this moment in our history. A complete collapse of our Federal governing body and it hallowed institutions.

If that's true I wonder if it is to provide cover for the Podestas...To keep them from being prosecuted by someone else...I don't trust Mueller and his crew at all...
I wonder how many private jets are warming up for them to escape the USA???

That’s what I’m thinking. If Mueller, Comey, Clinton, et al., can isolate the Pedo Podestas, a ton of information will be unavailable for more important things.
