The N.F.L. for now will continue to let players kneel or sit during the national anthem without a penalty, capitulating to demands by the athletes for free expression but potentially further alienating fans who object to the protests and feel they are disrespectful to the flag and the military.
But, after a meeting Tuesday with union representatives and players, the league did promise to help support some of the causes targeted by the protesting players, including reform of the criminal justice system.
The owners’ decision to not toughen the league’s stance on anthem demonstrations showed yet again the contortions they have been going through to display support for their players while wrestling with the political fallout of the sideline protests that have persisted since last season.

Simply amazing that owners would allow some horrible employees destroy their multi-billion dollar business but here we are.
In fairness, even if they made them stand now I wouldn’t come back. If they snuffed this out when Kaperdick started it, I’d still be watching. But now? Not a chance. That’s what happens when you deliberately insult your customers and only take corrective action once you figure out you’re being ruined.

The good news in all of this is that the NFL is the only thing propping up network TV. Let them all go down the tubes together.

Since Congress will not act I say encourage President Trump to lower the boom on the NFL with executive orders galore. Start with the tax code and hit them with penalties for any long lasting injuries to former players.

George Will was a trustee of the organization, and he said the board decided that they couldn't do any worse, but at a much cheaper price, by bringing up bunch of rookie players the farm teams.
So, they got rid of all the over-priced/under-performing "talent" that they could, and replaced them with rookies.
The fans had something to look forward to as well, with the new players.
And, they started winning some games at that point.
Probably sent a message too.
