In 1984 Ronald Reagan carried North Dakota with 64% of the vote to Walter Mondull’s 34%. Yet, almost all of the Republican officer holders starting with Governor Allen I. Olson were defeated, mostly as a result of constant press badgering over fairly minor issues.

I am sure Trump is still very popular in Alabama. That does not mean Moore is. (I hope he wins, I like the man).
