Steve Bannon has made it no secret that he is trying to defeat Republican senators whom he sees as supporters of Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
One of his projects is persuading Erik Prince to run in the Republican primary against incumbent Sen. John Barrasso in Wyoming. Prince, the founder of the now defunct military contracting firm Blackwater, is a controversial figure who will, if he runs, no doubt be demonized by the media as he has been often unfairly, in my view in the past. Among his assets are significant military and foreign policy experience, starting with his service as a Navy SEAL, and the ability to self-finance (the family-owned auto parts company was sold for $1.35 billion in the 1990s). He is the younger brother of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.
"Over the weekend, Mr. Prince traveled to Wyoming with his family to explore ways to establish residency there, said one person who had spoken to him."
Question: Why doesn't Prince run for the Senate in Michigan? He grew up there and graduated from Hillsdale College, and served in Hillsdale's volunteer fire department. Republicans have no obvious nominee to run against three-term Democrat Debbie Stabenow, who doesn't have outstanding job approval and has gotten an average of 48.5 percent in four polls when matched against Robert Ritchie, the singer known as Kid Rock. A run against Stabenow might be a long shot for Prince, and a Michigan Senate seat is unlikely to prove a lifetime job for a Republican. But it isn't inconceivable that he could win, and if he did, he would be replacing not a Republican who has voted more than 90 percent with Donald Trump but a Democrat who can be expected to vote at least 90 percent against him.

Conservatives here in Michigan like that plan. Let’s put Stabemnow out to pasture.
KID ROCK has bigger approval ratings than Stabenow. Why ruin a good thing here? Let’s stick with this for now and place Prince somewhere else.
Kid Rock is a great conservative, solid Christian and fantastic orator.
How I would love to see him in the Senate tearing into the Uniparty dinosaurs
Probably not a bad idea. It doesn’t take much to qualify. I don’t know about Kid Rock. I would certainly vote for him before Stabenow, but I really don’t know if he would be taken seriously on voting day. I suspect more Trump supporters in Michigan would prefer Prince over Stabenow.
But far more independents and even Democrats will cross over to vote for Kid Rock than “some Blackwater dude.” Any losses from the Republican base will be far more than offset by those crossovers, while Prince carries a lot of perceived negative baggage outside the right and some inside as well.
No, he’s a cia connected neocon. And he isn’t a resident, just like he wasn’t in Wyoming. He’s a resident of Virginia, Abu Dhabi, and UAE. He owns a business in China.
Kid Rock is a far better choice than this tool
You may be right. Nevertheless, as far as I know, Prince has expressed no inclination to run in Michigan (yet).
There are two Democrat Senators in his home state of Virginia. He could grow a spine and challenge one of them maybe.
As for Michigan people keep talking about his foreign policy chops (what exactly are they besides neocon?) But the biggest issue facing Michigan isn’t foreign policy, its the economy. Its freaking drinking water.
The Senator needs to be representing his state, not show up and be so focused on foreign policy.
Dont forget patriot. I saw him 3 times when I was a kid in the 90’s and he ALWAYS had an American flag in his shows. I dont know about Christian but he had a lot of fine lookin women on stage during and AFTER the shows. ;)
Agree...stick with Kid Rock.
If Prince is such a great candidate, why doesn’t he run in his home state of Virginia and push a Democrat out of office?
Exactly. I wont worry about the Blackwater stuff. Im sure he has prepared answers to them after all this time. The flow of the Trump election is to stay right, not deviate. I mean, you cant beat ‘NAVY SEAL” in your campaign resume...
As far as I can see, Prince is another Bush clone who loves the endless wars in the middle east. And his CIA connection isn’t a positive thing when that agency has turned against America.
Someone is shopping him hard for a carpetbag Senate seat. That would make him no better than Liz Cheney, McCain, or Hillary to go to another state to run.
The Senate is supposed to represent that state and ITS interest, not be an “at large” top 100 mandarins.
He doesn’t understand that, he has no place near a Senate seat.
Navy seal means he knows how to swim, is in good physical condition, and learned to shoot.
It means absolutely nothing towards being a Senator or a policy maker.
I call that the McMaster error in logic. He was a great tanker at the battalion level. He should NOT be setting national policy.
I’m sitting here scratching my head right now — trying to figure out why Bannon sees this dude — who lives in 2 or 3 different countries and isnt even interested in running in his home state — as an ideal “America First” candidate.
“The flow of the Trump election is to stay right, not deviate. I mean, you cant beat NAVY SEAL in your campaign resume...”
Kid Rock is MUCH closer to Trump in temperament and direction than Prince. Both clearly care about the voters. I don’t see that as Prince shops around for a state that will hire him as Senator.
And think about something, it’s pretty insulting for a politician to show up somewhere he doesn’t live or hasn’t in decades, and proclaim he has arrived to become their new leader.
That’s a good question. I have no idea why.
This goes for all the races, pick the freakin' strongest horse and start training it now. Enough of the also rans and yes Virgina for Prince...
There is indication the establishment orgs were lining up in favor of Kid Rock because he would be perceived as more malleable than this guy: https://johnjamesforsenate.com
John James appears to be a very solid conservative and would be a very fresh face for taking on an incumbent like Stabenow. He’s very articulate and well spoken. Also youthful looking - and while that shouldn’t matter substantively, we have to admit the reality is that is good for at least another percentage point or two of vote alone. Being African-American probably is also an asset in a state like Michigan and would further cut into the Dem narrative.
