“my wife’s mother was asocial friend of Imelda and her husband played golf with Marcos.”

So, he was their Harvey Weinstein, eh?

“he was our CIA butt boy.”

That doesn’t have the same connotations here that it does among leftards. In fact, it doesn’t bother me at all.

“If you’ve been to manila ask yourself what he did with the billions we gave him for bases and loyalty.”

Oh, my goodness. A strong man who took care of his own exit strategy. I’m shocked, shocked I tell you, to hear that he was not perfect in all ways.

I never once heard a Filipino complain that Marcos was corrupt. The universal complaint was that the corruption was reserved for Marcos’ buddies in Ilocos del Norte, and they weren’t getting a share.

“his martial law was oppressive down through the high schools.”

His martial law, which I know well, first hand, saved the Republic of the Philippines from succumbing to the commies or the muzzies, or being split between them. Whatever Marcos might have done wrong, it was farging **nothing** compared to what the commies or the muzzies would have done. If he had not taken power and slapped them down, the Philippines would be a pathetic charnel house today.

“Now go listen to stories from your fiords who know what they real deal was and what a great man he was. Bullshit!”

Firstly, I didn’t say he was a “great man.” Secondly, it sounds like your knowledge of Ferdinand Marcos is limited to the leftist narrative, so carabao shit to you.

I was first in the Philippines in 1987, visiting my wife's family. At the time, I was a USAF Senior NCO, in California. I wasn't much into politics at the time, and didn't" know much about Marcos. Her family seemed to be Marcos supporters, for whatever that was worth.
After retiring from California state service, I moved to Davao City. I never met Duterte in person, though I saw him from a distance. I do know a few others who did meet him in person. Living among the people gives me a little better idea how they think. My wife's family supports Duterte.
