The story seemed straightforward: The unarmed security guard approached Stephen Paddock’s room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, distracting the gunman and potentially saving lives.
He was hailed a hero by many, even as the story changed. Twice.
Now, the man that many want to honor and who can help bring clarity about the timeline of the shooting has vanished from the public eye, less than two weeks since the Oct. 1 massacre, which left 58 people dead and more than 500 others injured.
David Hickey, president of the Security, Police, and Fire Professionals of America union, said it had been four days since he last saw Jesus Campos.
“We have had no contact with him…. Clearly, somebody knows where he is," he said.
Hickey said he was with Campos on Thursday, coordinating a series of interviews that the guard was scheduled to give about the attack. They included appearances on the Sean Hannity show on Fox, as well as news shows on CNN, CBS, ABC and NBC. Campos was staying in a suite in a Las Vegas hotel, Hickey said.
Hickey said he was attending a meeting with MGM representatives in one room of the suite as Campos waited with a security guard — hired by MGM — and another union member in the living room.
When the meeting ended about 2 p.m., Hickey said Campos was no longer in the room.
"When I got in touch with the other union member, I was told Campos was taken to the Quick Care" health clinic, Hickey said. He didn't hear from the guard afterward and announced to a scrum of reporters that night that Campos had canceled interviews.

Why are they hiding and protecting the “hero”?
I can’t recall another time when a so called “hero” needed protection and was hidden from the public.
This entire Vegas tragedy narrative has stunk from the very start.
Perhaps some Freepers will finally learn to not believe everything they are told hook, line and sinker by certified liars in the Media. They lie about everything with the exception of next day weather and sport scores.
Its quite possible Campos knows the guy shooting at him in the hallway wasn't Paddock.
I found it odd how the union boss was glued to him then suddenly has no idea where he is. Unions, especially in Las Vegas, scare me.
I can still remember a union rep came to my Jr. High to speak to our social studies class. I don’t remember what he said but I do remember getting the impression that he was a communist and scary. Weird, huh?
Just because the feds are guarding his house, doesn’t mean anyone is inside. Bet Campos made a run for the border.
Could he be the shooter?
I never saw an explanation for what was presented as a CNN story that he’d been arrested.
It could have been a fake shadow site, because the story could only be accessed from a direct link to the story.
But if you went to CNN directly, the story wasn’t there.
This was the same day he failed to show for the Fox interview.
Has it been mentioned anywhere whether or not Campos is an illegal? If he is, I’ll bet that’s exactly what’s happened.

Could be. I just find it odd that this massacre is no longer in the news. We haven’t learned anything new since a couple of days after the shooting.
Exactly. I was wondering when FR became so PC? The Vegas investigation stinks to high heaven. Campos has a Muslim beard. It’s plain to see in multiple pictures, most recently Fox had a new Muslim beard pic.
Very little discussion here regarding Assange as well.
What seems very strange to me is that the news coverage of this shooting seems to have dropped relatively quickly from front page above the fold news, to front page below the fold, to the back pages, to near silence. Even the usual calls for more gun control after an event like this seem to be more of whisper than an all-out assault on the 2nd Amendment. My theory (more like a guess) is that the sources who wish to remain anonymous have suggested to the main stream media that (a) this was a conspiracy; and (b) the conspiracy involves the alt-left/ Antifa wing of the democratic party. None of the "kook theories" like gun-running, money laundering, or deep state make any sense to me. And I have ruled out ISIS because of its inability to prove responsibility in all but the most vague and general terms.

That’s because the person who warned the crowd was a time traveler from the future.
Maybe because of the warning some specific person was saved, or many, not just this individual.
Either that or the person warning the crowd was a psychic.

I don’t get the paywall message. Try deleting all your LAT cookies. WaPo is like that. After a few free looks they insist you subscribe. Delete their cookies and you start fresh.
I’ll give a shot....deleting cookies is a digital sin.
Over at /pol, someone said that Paddock bribed the minimum-wage Campos so that Paddock could use the service elevator to haul his weapons.
If this is true, then MGM would want Campos to hide so as to prevent lawsuits against them.
