Read the Academys full statement below:
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Board of Governors met today to discuss the allegations against Harvey Weinstein, and has voted well in excess of the required two-thirds majority to immediately expel him from the Academy. We do so not simply to separate ourselves from someone who does not merit the respect of his colleagues but also to send a message that the era of willful ignorance and shameful complicity in sexually predatory behavior and workplace harassment in our industry is over. Whats at issue here is a deeply troubling problem that has no place in our society. The Board continues to work to establish ethical standards of conduct that all Academy members will be expected to exemplify.

Now many questions arise about how they will handle other cases.... Roman Polanski and Woody Allen come to mind immediately, and of course there may be many gradations from the most criminal to the more stereotypical "casting couch" variations (some of which may be criminal, some of which may be consensual but still contemptible).

Probably 90% of them could be eligible for expulsion.

And all the women that shut their mouth so they could make lotsa, lotsa money have promised to give all the monies ever earned because of Weinstein to charity.

Let The Stripping Begin. I my mind’s eye, I see a foot of topsoil and everything on it being stripped from Hollywood, Burbank, and the entire Malibu coast. Then perhaps the Culture Rotters will be gone. Or at least inconvenienced.

Cool.
Now find all the whores who DIDN’T say no to Harvey in order to further their careers and kick them out of Hollywood, too.

I really didn’t need to see “Harvey Weinstein” and “Stripped” in the same headline. The mental image conjured up may be irreparable.
To: Sacajaweau
You touch on another side of this. How many women consented to do things with him?
I’m sure that some women had consensual activities with him.
Question I can’t really answer, is this : is it sexual harrassment or anything illegal, if the person gives in to such behaviors? If a man behaves badly with a woman in this manner, but she agrees to things, is it still an offense against a woman?
To: Enchante
The majority of the academy are probably just as bad, just not outed yet.

Either Weinstein is the only predator in Hollywood OR every boss in America is a predator.

Exactly.
Harvey could beat off in front of me three times a week if I get paid millions of dollars.
Hell, he could beat off his grandpa, I don’t care. Just sign the check.
“Gee, I’d rather not have seen that” is not worth more than a life of luxury.
To: Enchante
So, how about expelling those that knew but said nothing??

Yes. Weinstein is contemptible, but he is in good company in Hollywood, and hasn't gone to trial. They ignored Woody Allen. They ignored Cosby (and drugging women), they ignored Bill Clinton (yes, I know he's not in the Academy - but I still think it's relevant). Those are just a few that we know about. To be honest, I hope that with new technology it won't be necessary to have big studios to produce and distribute movies, and that talent and creativity will then become the most important factors.

Yeah exactly. They’re hypocrites if Weinstein is the only one expelled.
