At the time of writing, it's just shy of twenty women making accusations against Harvey Weinstein, the star of Hollywood's longest-running superhero franchise, Pig-Man.
That makes it hard to keep up. So, if you want a single vignette that sums up not just the Weinstein story but the broader cultural environment, I commend this one, from Ronan Farrow's reporting - the story that NBC, covering for Weinstein, declined to run and that he wound up taking to The New Yorker. It's 2010. Weinstein is at the Cannes Film Festival, where he meets the French actress Emma de Caunes (whose dad I was on TV with a zillion years ago). A few months later, he asks Mlle de Caunes to lunch at the Ritz in Paris:
Weinstein told de Caunes that he was going to be producing a movie with a prominent director, that he planned to shoot it in France, and that it had a strong female role. It was an adaptation of a book, he said, but he claimed he couldn't remember the title. "But I'll give it to you," Weinstein said, according to de Caunes. "I have it in my room."
So they go upstairs, and Weinstein steps into the bathroom. He comes out naked, with an erection.

Huh? Don’t for a second think I’m defending a fat pig like Weinstein or any other casting couch agent. But trying to pretend that these women were “innocent victims”? Seriously, I’d have to been born yesterday AND last night.

They in most, many cases, willingly “put out” so they could become stars.
A REAL courageous woman would have shouted HELL NO, and then filed a police report.

I don’t believe you have ever been young and trying to work and had to deal with powerful predatory men. Many young women can’t even believe it is happening to them until it happens. Then what, you expect them to crawl home and give up? Join a convent? Or maybe call the police, who will do nothing and make the likelihood of working in your chosen profession nil?
That behavior exists across the spectrum of work places, not just Hollywood. I sincerely hope you don’t have a daughter or granddaughter, I’d hate for that to happen to them with you as family.

I agree with you. Paltrow got her star on the Walk of Fame while possibly hundreds of young girls were assaulted but did NOT give in and did NOT get their stars. Every actress who made it by giving in to the creep is just as guilty as he is.

Plenty of women head to Hollywood PRAYING there is a casting couch for them so they can put out, get a job, become famous and make lots of money. The idea of selling out means NOTHING to many people....man...woman...or child...

The REAL crime is if women over the last couple of decades did contact police but nothing was done about it. That doesn’t excuse Weinstein or any of his WHORES OF BABYLON.

I can get down into the gutter and one up you at every turn. Marilyn Monroe was reputed to have said “That’s the last dick I’ll have to suck to get a role” upon signing her first big contract after being a bit player. Catherine Zeta Jones admits to be a stripper to pay for a nose job before she got into acting. Numerous actors and actresses have been named or admitted to having been escorts, including Brad Pitt and Denise Richards. We know all that.

Powerful people who hold says over careers always have leverage. For some of the victims it can vary in degrees.
I saw a women jump three steps to superintendent of a large faculty by visiting our director at his home 300 miles away several weekends. You can say she made the choice because she got the job, but she also lost a lot off respect from others who knew the deal.
He gave up a position of power and pioneer for 6-9 days with her.
Sometimes this is a two-way proposition and other times the person in power takes advantage.
