So according to this story, a maintenance worker named Stephen Schuck was walking down the hall when the first shots came flying down the hallway. And the security guard Campos saved *his* life by screaming for him to "take cover."
At which point, he radioed to the hotel dispatch that someone was shooting with an automatic rifle on the 32nd floor.
So now we find out that the hotel knew *before* anyone fired on the crowd that there was an active shooter on the 32nd floor...
No ma’am. Closest I’ve heard about is the floor above or below the shooter.
Agreed.
Oops! Meant to post on comment 1.
“he told TODAY”
I get it.
The second the FBI got involved in this, I knew this investigation would turn out to be a cluster-f***.
It would be useful to find out how many rooms on the 32nd floor were occupied on that wing.
Yeah it certainly sounds as if Campos wasn’t wounded in the “greater than 200 round burst” put through the door and down the hallway...but earlier than that.
And if the maintenance guy was there for the door alarm - why was Campos up there? They send two different guys for a door alarm?
I was just in a really nice hotel where there was a security issue on my floor - not an open door, but security issue all the same - and they sent one security guy with a walkie.
Indeed however, one has to admit there are several holes in the ever changing story.
I sure would like to see a consistent story line. This article has all kinds of new information and raises new questions .
It has been previously stated that Campos was injured when Paddock was shot through the door Is this the same as opening fire down a hallway? I suppose it can be if the door is at the end of the hallway .
“When the first shooting started, I was kind of frozen for a second,” worker Stephen Schuck said Wednesday on “TODAY.” “He yelled at me, ‘Take cover! Take cover!’ If he yelled a second too late, I would have been shot.” So Campos and Schuck were together in the hallway when the shooting took place through the door? I wonder how far they were from room 32135? And where would they take cover?
as Paddock fired more than 200 bullets into the hall and nearby rooms at the beginning of his deadly rampage. So we now know that it was more than 200 rounds? And the direction of these bullets were essentially down the hallway until one assumes they were stopped by the curved wall in front of the rooms?
and the release of audio of those initial shots. Really? Theres audio? Who took the audio?
Campos was alerted to the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, where an alarm associated with a fire exit door went off. Up to now, it has just been referred to as a door ajar alarm. I think this is the first time that it has been stated to be the alarm associated with a fire exit door Was this door open because of something that Paddock did to it? Up to now, it has been indicated that Paddock did something to block the doors from being opened .
How far was the fire exit door from Room 21135? And why did Schuck to the floor? Did he and Paddock go together to investigate the fire exit door alarm? Or was there some reason why one of them was there first and who was that?
Schuck said the gunfire in the hallway was relentless and he “could feel them [the rounds] pass right behind my head.” He said he took cover until the shooting stopped and he could reach Campos, then he radioed for help. So exactly where were Campos and Schuck when the firing was going on? Does the entry to each door have a bit of an offset from the hallway?
A police SWAT team got to the 32nd floor at 10:17 p.m., and a minute later learned that the security guard was hit and where the shots were fired from. One assumes that when Schuck radioed for help, he would have told them that Campos was injured . but the police did not know that until they got to the 32nd floor?
“Several holes...”
Indeed - some of them could have a rather large vehicle driven through them...
People wonder why we are “obsessed” - I’ll tell you why I am. Because I don’t like being lied to. I don’t like someone urinating on my head and telling me it’s raining.
Do I think they are lying on purpose? Not necessarily. I just think they started from a conclusion and are working their way backwards looking for facts and evidence that fit - and not all of the facts and evidence are cooperating.
Facts and evidence are funny that way.
Why start shooting into the hallway before his rampage out the windows? It doesn’t sound like they were coming for him so why alert anybody before the deadly shooting.
How long before we learn of the second shooter on the fourth floor? Or was he on a dirt mound? Or maybe it was the rooftop of the AM/PM convenience store?
I can’t keep my second shooter theories straight...
Many of us sense a lack of forthcoming by the police and FBI and by experience we associate it with a government or political interest. I think we are overlooking a more powerful interest that would want to control the flow of information, namely the gaming industry. They have a financial interest to control the narrative so that customers feel safe and feel the casinos did everything they could to protect the people.
The last thing they want out is that, delays in contacting the police were caused by a protocol that required approvals by management or employees helped bring luggage containing guns to his room or employees looked the other way for his behavior because he was a VIP.
I believe that they could have a culture that tries to keep criminal events within their own 4 walls so that the public is not aware. Who knows. Maybe reports to police were delayed on the shooting of the guard because protocol calls for contacting certain casino officials before making a report to police that could become public and cost them future business.
Also, they would have policies and practices to keep lid on all sorts of mishaps , attacks etc from public to protect their business. Even the police and local press would have adopted this attitude over time.
So I believe that the culture in Las Vegas would naturally be to down play all criminal incidents and that same culture is what we are sensing about potential cover-up.
Oh I know...
As anyone can plainly see, they have been so forthcoming with the facts so far...
Why do I not trust everything they say?
I shouldn’t need the tag...
I’m really sick of people saying the LVPD did not get to the scene for 72 minutes or whatever. There were officers on the 32nd floor within 20 minutes of the first shots.
If you want to squabble about why they waited an hour to actually breach the door (even though all of the shooting had stopped), that’s fine.
But there were police on the scene relatively quickly considering all of the factors.
Just to make one thing crystal clear: I’m not blaming anyone.
But I’m not an idiot either.
The ballistics data alone tell me that it’s impossible this guy did this by himself.
However, just because I believe the evidence points to more than one shooter doesn’t mean I think the whole thing was a .gov op sponsored by the CIA or something equally sophomoric.
Turn left!
Yes, I bet both the hotel and the LEOs are wishing real hard for a ride in the TARDIS right now. I would love to say that 58 families would agree, but the Whovian rules don’t allow even the Doctor to fundamentally change things.
There were two people in the hallway during the shooting. That pretty much rules out another shooter escaping.
Minimum wage maintenance man, but to NBC he was a building engineer.
