Police have dramatically changed their account of how the Las Vegas massacre began on Oct. 1, revealing Monday that the gunman shot a hotel security guard six minutes before opening fire on a country music concert raising new questions about why police werent able to pinpoint the gunmans location sooner.
Officials had previously said that gunman Stephen Paddock, 64, of Mesquite, Nev., shot Mandalay Bay security guard Jesus Campos after Paddock had unleashed his deadly volley at the Route 91 Harvest festival, an assault that began at 10:05 p.m. and left 58 people dead, with hundreds more injured.
They had credited Campos, who was shot in the leg, with stopping the 10-minute assault on the concert crowd by turning the gunmans attention to the hotel hallway, where Campos was checking an alert for an open door in another guests room.
But Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo said Monday that Paddock shot Campos before his mass shooting at 9:59 p.m. and they now dont know why Paddock stopped his attack on the crowd.

I can’t find a website with www.newyorknewsday.com - just some local town papers. The murder-suicide article comes up on a lot of various goofy websites though. It is fake.
I like the one line-something like “he took the shotgun and shot his daughter and then himself in the back of the head”.
Quite the trick!
You win the internet tonight
Here’s the link:
Lombardo repeated his claim about there being evidence that Campos planned to escape in tonight’s press conference.
That's an understatement. And a problem that certainly won't go away at this point. If there was not enough distrust before, there is now.

This makes sense.
Shooter may have made a small hole originally to shoot through. Maybe he misfired and hit the glass which caused the bullets to ricochet and kill him. Would that explain all the strewn bullets around his body?
According to the guest just below the shooter's suite, he said that he heard furniture moving and glass breaking when the SWAT were above. What are the chances that SWAT fully broke the windows and did some staging? No one would notice on the ground since most were in panic mode.
Nobody likes having their buttocks spackled with topping compound
(Maybe Harvey Weisenstein.)
I’ve got stink bugs.
We are being lied to. At every presser since the shooting, the sheriff and others have told the same story about the security guard being shot just before the death of the perp. NOW, everything changes. Completely. Changes.
And now there’s not going to be another presser until Friday? Time for creative writing?
Assuming you meant to say Paddock.
The cop in that 60Minutes interview said it again, “We had to breach the interior door to the second room...” If that door was locked, how was Paddock moving between and shooting out of both broken windows (as according to their explanation that Paddock acted alone)? Who was shooting from the broken window in the other room?
yeah, but if you look at the whole cab driver video, people were standing around the lobby and by the curb acting completely unconcerned while gunfire was going off over their heads. No one was running around the lobby, trying to evacuate people, nothing.
Regarding the comment about having an exit strategy.
When I first heard it, I couldn’t help thinking maybe he had an accomplice who though the exit strategy was so good that he took it and left the shooter in his place.
I have a sneaky suspicion that movie plots like Ocean’s Eleven, the Professional, Catch Me If You Can, etc,. must linger for years in the back minds of many a Vegas gambler and professional.
It seems like a common element in those movies is the ability to pose a very public distraction, while walking away free from the crime as though they are law enforcement or a first responder.
While reality is quite different than the movies, I suspect those who are most likely to be mass murderers, were suckered into thinking they were removing evil or a cog in a machine.
Any other major casino robberies ongoing at the time of the shooting?

Regarding the engineer who mysteriously suicides himself and handicapped daughter a day after FBI searches his home.
No radio, perhaps. But no cellphone? And he could phone from a guest room, right?
Listen to the police radio tapes on youtube.
Net control had difficulty keeping first responders from a myriad of locations reporting injuries to other officers.
Then they shut down the major boulevard and likely avenue of approach believing they would likely be targeted along that approach by preplanned fires.
If anything, the event will prompt more coordination between first responders and casinos and security firms,,.....or maybe the public simply doesn’t know what’s been going on behind the scenes.
I don’t know.
I tend towards the WYSIWYG explanation, but remember, this is Las Vegas we’re discussing.
Where is the video of Paddock doing this? Don’t tell me they didn’t catch this on camera...
I dont think we were ever told police ever fireda weapon at Paddocks room. They breached the door but I never assumed it was bullets.
Well this is weird: Article is dated October 5 and the locale is Rochester, NY
