Global leaders must do more to protect indigenous people fighting to protect their land and way of life if the world is to limit climate change, according to the UN special rapporteur Victoria Tauli-Corpuz.
Speaking ahead of key climate talks in Bonn next month she urged politicians to recognise that indigenous communities around the world were the most effective custodians of millions of hectares of forest which act as the worlds lungs.
Indigenous peoples rights need to be protected in the best way possible, not just for them but because they are also able to provide solutions to many of the worlds problems from climate change to biological diversity.
It is in the self interest of states and even corporations in the medium and long term to protect and listen to these people the question is, will they realise this in time? said Tauli-Corpuz.
If we want to see the beautiful centuries ahead
we need to shift our paradigm of what constitutes wealth or prosperity because too many people see happiness only in terms of material goods and achievements and it is having a devastating impact. Many of us have lost our ability to connect with natural things and no longer seem able to live in harmony with the simple happiness around us.

> Protect indigenous people to help fight climate change, says UN rapporteur <
I tend to take anything a rapporteur says very seriously. Rapporteurs usually know what they’re talking about. By the way, what’s a rapporteur? Is it anything like a masseuse?
“according to the UN special rapporteur Victoria Tauli-Corpuz.”
So she’s a member of that “famous” Corpuz family. Is it me, or do the strange people all gravitate to the UN? And I guess a “rapporteur” is some sort of a “reporter” in plain English. We so need to be done with this worthless organization.
From her Wiki:
“Victoria Tauli-Corpuz is an indigenous leader from the Kankanaey Igorot people of the Cordillera Region in the Philippines. Is a social development consultant, indigenous activist, civic leader, human rights expert, public servant, and an advocate of women’s rights in the Philippines.”
“If we want to see the beautiful centuries ahead”
What a pant load. You can always count on The Guardian.
Climate change is not man-made. Insanity.
And yet... this indigenous leader chose to leave the perfect utopia of "indigenous-nous" for... lemme guess, material goods and achievements?
LOLOLOL!! Like the UN gives a damn about indigenous people!! Unless they can steal their lands for their pals and make profitable resorts out of it.
Will the utter BullSh*t never end?
” ... whats a rapporteur?”
I think rapporteur is a lot like a raconteur, but with more Brawndo.
This guy can use his tongue better than a $20.00 congressman.
