Under a phase-out plan announced by President Donald Trump last month, over 150,000 people covered by the Obama-era DACA program were given the chance to submit renewals.
Tens of thousands of young people eligible for renewed protection from deportation had yet to submit their applications hours before a Trump administration deadline Thursday night. The administration was finalizing details of an immigration wish list that could jeopardize a long-term fix.
Under a phase-out plan announced by the president last month, more than 150,000 young people covered by the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program whose permits were set to expire before March 5 were given the chance to submit renewals — provided they arrive by October 5.
Trump gave Congress six months to come up with a legislative replacement for the program. It shielded from deportation hundreds of thousands of young people, many of whom were brought into the U.S. illegally as children, and allowed them to work legally in the country.
While final numbers wouldn’t be available until next week, DHS spokesman David Lapan said that about 118,000 of the roughly 154,000 people eligible for renewals had submitted their applications by mid-day Thursday. That left 36,000 _ or about 23 percent of those eligible _ outstanding. Facilities processing applications were prepared to accept courier deliveries until midnight, he said.
The deadline approached as the Trump administration finalized the details of a set of immigration principles that could upend efforts to come up with a permanent fix for DACA recipients, often known as “Dreamers.”

I have no idea why they wouldn’t have prioritized getting them in knowing the deadline.

Oh, well. Trump tried. They were warned. Now they gotta get out of Dodge. Why’d they want to hang around America anyway. It’s such a racist country that people wear genocidal hats and tap their toes to bluegrass, and demand that football players stand up during the anthem.
Good. Deport them first. Then deport all illegals; no exceptions. Deport illegal Mexicans, illegal Hondurans, illegal Guatemalans, illegal Poles, illegal Swedes, illegal Chinese, illegal Brits, and the rest of the illegals. The rule of law matters.

In the same vein that many Muslim "refugess" are actually 25 year old men who are suddenly "children"; and registered in high schools across the country.
If they are in violation send them home ,, the free ride is history . It should never pay to break the law .
Trump knew this would happen - helping to make the weeding easier by putting the blame directly on those who refuse to comply....and on the do-nothing Congress.
Navigators had an incentive to maximize the signups by any means necessary.
The bogus signups were a mix of non-existent people,
True Dreamers who met all the criteria,
People who were born in the US of immigrant parents and “felt” like dreamers,
People no where close to being Dreamers, but who self-identified in solidarity with the Dreamers,
Twenty three other categories I can’t dream up right now.
It was the same way with signing up for Obamacare and free cellphones, and Cash for Clunkers. If you support Obama’s programs then you must participate in them, whether you qualify or not. You must show your solidarity.
Many of these people had no intention of normalizing their status; while we were sold the BS that immigrants would “save Social Security”, it has become abundantly clear that many have no interest in contributing towards anything but remittances south of the border. Instead of them subsidizing American retirees, WE (including American retirees) are subsidizing THEM. ObamaCare (which WAS offered to illegals) was funded in part by cuts to Medicare; it couldn’t have been more clear than that.
Round them up, ship them out.
Of course they’ve done NOTHING! They were enabled that way. They want it all done for them. Really shows how precious and valuable DACA status is . . . toss ‘em.
They defy Trump to throw them out?
Maybe the media is slightly fading on the idiocy of DACA when my hourly propaganda minute called them, “SO CALLED Dreamers”. It does make a difference.
How much does it cost?
Too bad so sad.
Not renewed? Great. Have they left or been tracked down and deported?
