The sheriff said that there were at least 8 other cops right there nearly at the same time the unarmed guard was hit. It took a whole hour for SWAT to get in position? we have an active shooter spraying people and it takes an additional hour to breach the door? I mean I wasnt there , but that seems like a big risk to leave that guy inside that room for a whole hour.
They covered that last night in the press briefing. Police arrived on the floor right after the guard was shot, but the shooting had stopped. So, at that time there was no 'active shooter'. The swat team searched and evacuated adjoining floors, before they breached the shooters room. When they found Paddock, it appeared that he had been dead for a while.
It appears that Paddock killed himself soon after shooting the guard. Because that is when the shooting stopped. This bothers me a bit, why stop shooting, and kill yourself, when you still have, time, ammunition, and targets? I just find that strange.

Read somewhere he was planning to get away alive. So my guess is he panicked when he realized he was not going to get away, that they had found where he was.

Maybe he was planning more but guilt and remorse got to him...or the fear of extreme physical pain if he was shot fighting police and not taken out quickly with a single shot. Or fear of surviving being hit by police and waking to face the shame of what he did.
