Actually I support this.. A couple of months ago I saw a guy at the range with one. He wasn’t a small guy but he had a lot of trouble controlling the gun, and I thought it unsafe.
If the gun is dropped on it’s stock, it’s Katy Barr the door!

Nope. The bump-stock works by holding tension forward on the front of the rifle and letting your finger rest on the bump on the sliding stock. As you push forward with your non-shooting hand, the trigger is engaged with your shooting hand. Let up on the forward tension, and the bump-fire ceases immediately. Dropping it will do no more than would dropping any non-modified rifle.

I do as well. I never even heard of a bump stock before this week. I did know that converting semi auto to full is a felony so I assumed these things would be illegal. I guess when ATF issued the regs they screwed this one up to.

Anyway for those criticizing the NRA, we pick the hill we want to die on and this is not a fight the average gun owner thinks is prudent.

Disclosure: I know nothing about bump stocks.

Saying that they should be illegal because some guy had trouble controlling the gun is like saying matches should be illegal because some guy accidentally started a fire. Or that sledgehammers should be illegal because some guy wasn’t strong enough to control it and hit himself in the leg. ... or many similar analogies.

I’m not in favor of limiting freedom. Stupid people or weak people or whatever will always manage to misuse things. That doesn’t mean that the ability to have them should be taken away from everyone.

Just because I don’t like something someone else does, does not mean I should call for a law against it. That is how liberals/democrats/progressives think. If my neighbor is incompetent or a menace behind the wheel of a car, I should try to get his driver’s license taken away, not try to ban everyone from driving or make cars illegal.
