Las Vegas sheriff: Mass killer led a 'secret life' before attack
Fox News ^ | Oct. 05, 2017

The Las Vegas gunman behind the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history spent decades stockpiling guns and living a “secret life” that investigators may never be able to fully understand, police say.

Clark County, Nev., Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said Wednesday that it was only logical to “make the assumption” that Stephen Paddock had “some help at some point” in pulling off Sunday's massacre.

As evidence, Lombardo pointed to gunman Paddock’s huge arsenal, explosive materials found in his car and his meticulous planning.

“What we know is Stephen Paddock is a man who spent decades acquiring weapons and ammo and living a secret life, much of which will never be fully understood,” the sheriff said.

Authorities also revealed that they believe Paddock had an escape plan, even though he turned the gun on himself as police closed in on his luxury suite at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

Analyzing Paddock's computer, cellphone and other electronic devices, Investigators have found no obvious ideological motive, no clear connection to extremists or activist groups or outward display of mental illness, The Associated Press reported.

Lombardo said Paddock had 1,600 rounds of ammunition and several containers of an explosive commonly used in target shooting that totaled 50 pounds in his car. But it wasn't clear what, if anything, Paddock planned with the explosives, he said.

I’m sure this story is to exonerate his girlfriend/wife, Marilou.

How could she know or participate in anything if she wasn’t aware of his ‘secret life’?

It’s Vegas so this sheriff is hedging his bet by invoking a lack of information to cover any holes in his investigation.

‘spent decades acquiring weapons and ammo and living a secret life, much of which will never be fully understood’

We may not know what he had for breakfast in June 2011 but the rest of the ‘secret life’ relevant to the case can and should be un-secreted.

If it’s less than a week after the attack why is the sheriff so keen to declare the case an unsolvable mystery?

PS - despite the criticism I’m on your side, sheriff. Resist offers of so-called help from the feds who have demonstrated they are purely political animals.

What would be the point of the shooter bringing that many guns to his room? Would be impossible for him to use that many rifles.

And yet his airplane was removed from one (but not
BOTH) of the Registries — because it was
tied to the US Govt.

And not a word from the MSM.

He could use them if the police take an hour to get to him. That security guard saved a huge number of people.

Where was it tied to the US government? The only thing I saw was that it was registered to a company that does work for the US government.

Numbers of rifles, amounts of ammo make it reasonable to ask if he was expecting accomplice(s)

Why doesn’t he say what makes him think the MURDERER lead a “secret life”? And stop calling him “the gunman!”

So having 43 guns, 1600 rounds of ammunition and some Tannerite means he had a secret suspicious life? The brush is painting too broadly and looks like it can be spun to cover anyone with a firearms collection.

He could have had another computer that he destroyed before he checked into the hotel, knowing that police would search his other computers.

Marilou was allegedly with Paddock at a gun shop where Paddock was asking the clerk how to make his gun fire faster than it was designed to do. A decent investigator would be hard pressing her about that, and I bet her knew-nothing story would be full of holes.

Paddock was clearly extremely vain, and that's why he surely let a few people close to him in on his plan, if only in hints. Betting the brother knows more, too.

REALLY! This is what has a burr in your BVD’s? Do you honestly think the families of the victims give a crap about semantics?

I predict the sheriff will soon be elbowed aside by fedgov agents who are better trained in the art of speaking for hours without revealing the slightest bit of information. This guy seems genuinely interested in informing the public as much as he can. That is anathema to fedgov control freaks and truth suppressors.

Doesn’t everyone drive around with explosives in their cars, with no plans for it?

That’s the dumbest statement I have ever heard.

He was a lunatic loser with a gambling addiction. Who knows what goes through the mind of a lunatic loser addict?

Maybe he simply surrounded himself with his earthly treasures (yes, some people perceive gun collections as a form of "treasure") in a grandiose display before he checked out.

Or maybe, the extra firepower was for his team of shooters who parachuted out the windows before the police arrived?

“He could use them if the police take an hour to get to him. That security guard saved a huge number of people.”

I agree about the guard.

But the reason for the delay in entering the room was because Paddock had stopped firing and they were clearing several floors of hotel guests before explosively breaching the door. If Paddock had continued to fire, I’m sure they would have just knocked the door down and gone in shooting.

Your forgetting that they replaced said windows while parachuting out... or used a phase disruptor to transport through the windows.
