As virtually everyone has noted from the abundant video footage of the incident, it certainly sounds as if the shooter used either fully-automatic weapons or semi-automatic weapons modified (through, for example, a bump fire stock) to closely simulate automatic fire. Moreover, the police are reporting that he had “more than 10 rifles.” He apparently rented his corner room for days and may have even set up cameras to detect when police were approaching. That’s all strange enough, but it’s even more unusual when you consider that his own family apparently didn’t know that he maintained a stockpile of guns.

Put all this together, and the shooting is flat-out bizarre. It’s significantly different from virtually any other mass shooting in U.S. history. If the weapons were fully automatic, then he likely would have spent immense sums of money to obtain them legally, jumping through extensive legal hoops.

So, a person who’s “not a gun guy” has either expended untold thousands of dollars to legally purchase fully-automatic weapons, somehow found them on the black market, or purchased and substantially modified multiple semi-automatic weapons — and did so with enough competence to create a sustained rate of fire. This same person also spent substantial sums purchasing just the right hotel room to maximize casualties.

Given the firepower and the packed mass of people, it’s easy to see how the casualty count was so high, even firing from an extreme range (by the standards of mass shootings.) This was the University of Texas tower attack on steroids, conducted out of nowhere, with meticulous planning and at great expense, from a person who doesn’t seem to fit any normal profile of a mass shooter. There is much we have yet to learn, but for now, this is one of the most chilling and mysterious events I’ve ever seen.

What is your guess? I honestly don’t have a guess. There is too much I don’t know. I know he had a motive that meant something either to him or someone controlling him.
You run towards the shooter because it is almost impossible to lead someone coming to you at that angle.
I don’t either but if you have my phone or laptop, or my paper photos in my house, you will have a picture of me, at least one!
I’m keeping an open mind trying to put together everything I read see,hear, so far I just don’t see the supposed perp being anything other than what he claims to be.
The guy has no record of shooting anything anywhere ever or any interest in guns,I see third parties doing all or most of the damage, just don’t know who.
I have my guesses and others have the same but nothing hard I can cling to.
I think it was an op done by deep staters who do these kind of things in foreign countries all the time.
I dont see the suspect involved at all.
I only heard a short audio clip.

This whole thing stinks, and nothing the media is saying makes any sense.

My two friends that were there got out ok, but a woman from near here didn’t. She left behind four kids.

I just heard audio that seems to suggest that some of the automatic fire was coming from one location and the other definitely from another location. It was audio only so could not see where it was coming from.
From thousands of cameras in the hotels and casino’s where he practically lived according to the very tiny amount of info we have on him. A driver license.... some photos from his houses, cell phone, computer...
Well over 10 million US citizens are on opiate medications for chronic afflictions. So you are saying all these otherwise good citizens can flip to a raving narcissist? And then go out acting God-like to satisfy all their desires?

Just thought it ight be relevant when I saw the pyramid in Las Vegas, the Luxor Casino/Hotel, overlooking the concert stage area in a photo.
Maybe the guy wanted to carry out his own Luxor massacre... an attack intended to weaken Egypt’s economy.

there are two shooting sounds ... a sharp, higher toned "crack" and a lower "boom" (for lack of better descriptors)
It has already been suggested that what I am hearing is echoing, but the cracks and booms don't seem to match.THAT is why I asked (?) ...
