Breivik was a neo-Nazi, which is fundamentally Leftist. This confuses a lot of people because Nazism is so different from the Leftists we typically encounter, but Nazis view the government as a positive force and believe in enforcing equality (if you’re the correct race); both of these are Leftist traits.
Conservatism also believes in adherence to the law (except for extraordinary circumstances, such as during the American Revolution), while mass murderers fundamentally do not.
Mass murder (when done to people not known personally, and planned out) is fundamentally done by Leftists. I will concede that a guy attacking people while on bath salts may not be thinking of Leftist political ideals at the moment, but it was Leftist thoughts which brought him to that state.
Nazis fit in with one variety of the European right wing, which historically did believe in powerful government and in enforcing inequality (between classes or races or religions or ethnic groups).
Some liberals will tell you that the left was always peaceful and tolerant and kindly. It wasn't. But neither was the right, especially in 20th century Europe.

People who turn to political violence usually do believe that we are living in extraordinary circumstances that justifies taking up the gun or bomb. They aren't conservative. But they may be right-wing. They usually aren't liberal either, though they may be left-wing.

Sane, healthy, responsible people don't shoot up people they don't know. You can take pride in being sane and healthy and responsible I guess, but putting all good on your own side and all evil on the other side of the political spectrum looks like special pleading.
I don't believe that every mass murderer who happens to be a white guy is right wing or that Nazis or racists are conservatives, but I also recognize that not every awful thing people do can be blamed on leftists.
Maybe calling Breivik "right-wing" is wrong or inaccurate, but calling who somebody who ranted against "cultural Marxism" and political correctness a leftist doesn't get us closer to what he was.
He liked Israel.
