Trump: NFL owners 'afraid' to take action against kneeling players
Fox News ^ | September 28,2017

President Trump, in an exclusive interview with "Fox & Friends," said that NFL owners are “afraid” to act against their players protesting the national anthem at games across the country.

“The NFL is in a box and they have to do something about it,” Trump told Fox News' Pete Hegseth, in the interview aired Thursday morning.

“I think they’re afraid of their players, if you want to know the truth,” Trump said.

In the same interview, Trump also touted the newly released Republican tax reform framework, describing the plan as the “largest reduction in terms of dollars in any plan in the history of the country.”

The president reiterated that the NFL has a wide range of rules, suggesting the league should apply new rules to those who would protest the anthem by kneeling.

“They have rules for everything—you can’t dance in the end zone, you can’t wear pink socks relative to breast cancer—they have rules for everything,” the president told Hegseth, a “Fox & Friends” weekend co-host and Fox News political analyst.

He added: “Why aren’t they honoring this country by enforcing a rule that’s been in existence for a long time?”

But he said, “I have so many friends that are owners, and they are in a box.”

Trump’s comments come after days of back-and-forth criticism with the NFL and its players for “disrespecting our country.”

Trump suggested that stadiums are “losing” fans amid the controversy. “The stadiums are losing—there are a lot of empty seats, I couldn’t even believe it,” Trump said.

Trump kicked up a firestorm over the kneeling protests last week, after criticizing NFL players for not standing for the anthem.

this keeps up for a few more weeks...expect to see certain coaches like Belichek will retire...some sponsors are leaving already, so expect some teams to go up for sale....who needs this aggravation...once that snowball starts to roll, thats it...league will be done.

That is what I see coming. Jerry Jones was shocked at the rage of the cowboy fans to the taking of the knee in solidarity with the black players protesting the flag and the anthem.Direct TV is getting thousands of NFL channel subscriptions cancelled . This thing is not over and it wont be over until or Flag and this Country are respected. The black players have marginalized themselves very badly. Some black patriots must take charge very soon.

“I think they’re afraid of their players, if you want to know the truth,” Trump said.

Well, maybe if they wouldn't hire/keep so many criminals and felons on their teams..

The fans aren’t the problem. The owners seem to disregard their wishes and place a higher regard on the employees’ political interests. The fans are not holding the owners hostage.

Exactly right. I've always contended from the beginning that the problem in this whole situation was not one guy "taking a knee". The problem was the owners and the Commissioner who failed to take immediate, strong, and punitive action. Their failure to act has set up this whole scenario.

I'm pleased that we have a President who saw their moral weakness, and encourages all those with the same weakness to expose themselves openly for all to see. Absolutely brilliant.

What's also gratifying, is that we have a President who articulates EXACTLY what any true American innately sensed. The truth is it's own defense.

The radical ignorant leftists who "took a knee" and their supporters are now getting a real education. I'm sure many are now awakening to how disrespectful and ignorant they were. Who will be the first to "bow the head" and humbly and courageously acknowledge the wrongness of their "taking a knee" during the anthem? Will this in turn give others the courage to likewise humbly acknowledge their error?

Proverbs 28:13 "He that covers his sins shall not prosper: but whosoever confesses and forsakes them shall have mercy."

I think they panicked at being call “racist” by the black racists and America haters. We have lost back bone in this country when we allow the desecration of our flag in the workplace of the NFL. But the NFL now gets to eat that. I understand the Packer fans are liquored up and pissed off tonight. The networks will try to hide it but there are numerous sophisticated efforts to get it on you tube,

I stopped watching sports some years ago.
It was a result of a few factors...
Getting older and time becoming more precious.
I have projects and goals I want to complete and accomplish.
(One big reason I like Trump, he’s about 5 years older than me and he still out there active, doing new things.)
If there is any playing going on, it’s going to be me doing the playing.
I love my MMOs and other games. Keeps me sharp.

I have but little time to waste watching others live their lives.

Me too! This is later, but the USC / WSU game was excellent. Only downside was the NFL ads during the breaks. :-D
