Editorial: Trump taunts Stephen Curry with divisive bullying
San Jose Mercury-News ^ | September 26, 2017 | Editorial Board

It seems that President Trump just wants to pick fights. With NATO. The United Nations. North Korea. Mitch McConnell. John McCain.

And now Stephen Curry.

Yep, that’s right. The president of the United States is doing so well on foreign relations, health care, tax reform and his border wall that he apparently has enough time on his hands to take on the stars and owners of the NBA and the NFL.

And the Constitution. Through intimidation, Trump repeatedly tries to silence his critics and their free speech rights. The commander in chief has become the bully in chief, and there seems to be no end to his divisive schoolyard behavior.

Trump simplistically portrays the players’ kneeling during the anthem as disrespecting the flag. He fails to acknowledge that the right to conduct these peaceful protests is protected by our Constitution, and that they represent widespread underlying discontent.

People in positions of power, be they presidents or coaches, must be able to deal with criticism, Warriors coach Steve Kerr told Sports Illustrated.

“People are going to take shots at you and it’s incumbent upon you to absorb those shots. Maybe you respond diplomatically, but you maintain a level of respect and dignity. What you can’t do is just angrily lash out.”

That’s sage advice. The question is whether the president will learn the lesson. Probably not.

Jousting with a sports official is like Einstein jousting with Hillary Clinton.

Actually at least half of these thugs are multimillionaires who otherwise would be in prison.

Living in the Bay Area you rapidly find out they believe none of it.

They are deranged totalitarians who want to live in the nicest part of the United States and get other people to pay for it.

Anyone who calls them on that they attack.

“He fails to acknowledge that the right to conduct these peaceful protests is protected by our Constitution...”

.

Oh this is so funny, isn’t it? From the party and politics that support the likes of ANTIFA and “punch a NAZI” talk. And we all know Nazi to them is anyone Republican. These people have supported intimidating people who are really engaging in freedom of speech with threats and violence. Yet those who have an issue with players ON THE JOB supporting a militant political stance is a problem? There is no freedom of speech on your job. The NFL is where the customer has paid BIG bucks for tickets let alone parking, they don’t pay to see this bullsh**. Take it off the field.

Stop letting these morons use the freedom of speech argument when the NFL has squashed other forms and displays of less controversial actions by players supporting a charity/cause.

Maybe, just maybe, Trump is trying to “fundamentally change” the US, to what it was and always has been-a Republic.

Totalitarian is correct. I just can't stand their "Freedom of speech" nonsense when this isn't even an issue of the 1st amendment, considering it's a workplace for the players while on the field.

And just how utterly deluded do you have to be to spout off about free speech when your entire party condones violence against real free speech and peaceful protest? This is a party where some claim that hate speech should not be protected under the 1st amendment. Of course THEY get to decide what is considered hate speech. And the left in California trying to criminalize using the wrong pronouns for transgenders.
And they come at us with "respect players freedom of speech"

Yea riiight.

yep curry was running his mouth an hour after winning the NBA title and hasn’t stfu about this visit for a few months. Finally POTUS said fine stay away, and it’s a meltdown.
Again snowflakes think they can say and do whatever the hell they like even commit violence against us and we’re supposed to just bend over and take it. They can’t handle any form of debate or disagreement. Childish assholes.

Here is a response to letter that I posted to on the Whitehouse website:

“Dear XXXXX:

Thank you for your kind message and prayers.
The unwavering faith of the American people has sustained our country through the best and worst of times. As we look ahead, as one Nation, we will fulfill our sacred duty and deliver upon the promise of America for all of our people. We will strengthen our national spirit and ensure that America continues to shine as a beacon of freedom for all the world to see.

Melania and I are heartened by your support. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and for keeping us in your prayers.

God Bless America,

Donald Trump
.....”

No, my name isn't XXXXX. Just don't want my name visible on the Internet.

I can post the whole thing, graphics and all but this is the core of the response.

Trump is a good man and president!

Before I thought that Curry was a stand up guy..I dont know his political beliefs, his TRUE political beliefs, but playing for the Bay Area, if he doesn’t conform to the leftist Commie ideology he will be booted out of town so even if he doesn’t hate on Trump, he has to in order for those in the NBA who supported Clinton and his fan base to stay with him

Millionaires who otherwise would be earning the minimum wage are discontented? Why?

Because they are black. Inherently discontented.

Karma’s a bitch. We rightiwngers took it like men for 8 years. You didn’t see us ordering crayons and renting safe spaces or heading to canada. Only these pukes come up with excuses because they simply hate a sitting Republican president. Let them get heart attacks for the next 8 years.
