If I had to guess, I’d bet that Trump made a deal with McConnell — “I will back Strange. I will push hard for him. Throughout the campaign. I will give it my best effort. And you will owe me for that. And if Strange loses, and if Moore makes it to the Senate, you will bow before me and run the Senate as I wish. Because the people want what I’m selling— even when I don’t sell it.”
I don’t know, I understand why McConnell and the GOPe would want to shut Moore down.... they fear losing the party... and a Moore win would encourage more primary challenges, and McConnell’s position... but the reality is, lots of GOPe/RINO’s are going to face primary challenges... particularly in solid red states.. with our without a Moore win.
The fact that you promised things for 8 years, but then when you have everything you should need to do it, you didn’t, that’s all that needs to be known.
I assume Trump made some deal with McConnell, because him shilling for Strange makes no sense, other than, being party loyal... Moore is far more likely to help MAGA agenda happen than any McConnell shill.
The GOPe continue to stupidly think THEY won last November, and the reality is YOU DIDN’T... TRUMP WON... You won’t get on board the Trump Train, then you will get rolled over..... Look for a LOT of folks to wind up primaried.... lots of folks.. lots of retirements fearing they might wind up primaried as well....
This is pure political calculation on Trump’s part.
Luther Strange is an old school transactional politician. It’s all about what you have done for him lately. He is honest, so once he is bought, he stays bought. Trumps words and support make it harder for him to not stay bought if he wins
Strange is not the kind of guy you want to make an enemy of, especially if he has been on your team, because he will make life hard for you.
Moore, in the other hand is an ideologue who will have a hard going against his ideology and his like minded base. That ideology is in line with the Trump agenda
Everyone knows Moore will win and this is just a Hail Mary on Trumps part.
So Trump has threaded the needle on this one
Trumps endorsement will have value and he will help Moore in the general when Moore wins the primary, which Moore will do
