Coach Tomlin says that he respects the decision of his players to not appear for the national anthem. Yet he expresses clear disappointment with the decision Villanueva made to appear. So I guess player decisions are respected only when they fit the PC narrative.

You are entirely correct, and it is due to extremely weak leadership on the part of the coaches/owners. These players have to perform as a team, of course, and by not stepping up and stopping protests, it places the players who do not protest at odds with the ones who do. What quarterback wants to throw a pass to a receiver who is secretly nursing grudges, or hand off to a back with the same attitude?
I now have an NFL team, minus one player, to root against—largely because of their head coach.
Wake up. Tomlin hosted an expensive fundraiser for Clinton. Others on the Steeler staff are libs and proud of it. This was a political statement by that Coach and Villaneuva is a hero for standing up for the flag and the Anthem. You think he didn’t vote for Trump? Take the needle out of your arm.
Villanueva has served overseas (more than once) in spartan conditions. Anybody who has done that knows what it’s like when the flag is raised or lowered on your base. It’s a special moment. Mike Tomlin doesn’t ‘get that’. Hopefully he’ll give it some thought.
I root for the Dallas Cowboys so clearly I’m not a Steelers fan. But I’m a Steelers fans fan now. I don’t think this is going to go over big with the people of Pittsburg!!!

I currently have NFL season tickets. I sent my agent a message this AM. “Since the NFL has become a political protest group will you be offering refunds to fans that just wanted to watch football?”

I am at the point where I think every person who is an American citizen (citizen of the USA) should be obligated to pledge allegiance to the USA and the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
Those that don’t should be given transportation to the country of their obligation and allegiance and deposited there sans passport or right to return ever. Period.

Vets and other Real Americans will no longer watch games, support the sponsors or purchase jerseys or other sports merchandise.

It broke “Team unity” and “dissed” Tomlin. He will respond.
However, the gentlemen in question is a Hispanic Army vet with three tours (correctable on that) overseas.
I doubt he will be scared of a spoiled brat of a coach.
