Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin indicated Sunday night that he did not want offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva to stand for the national anthem, instead of sitting it out with the rest of his teammates.
Villanueva, a former Army Ranger who served three tours in Afghanistan, was the only Steelers player to stand for the anthem. While Villanueva stood in the tunnel, hand over his heart, the rest of the team remained in the locker room in protest of President Trumps comments that players who kneel during the national anthem should be fired. WATCH:
Tomlin said in a post-game press conference that he was looking for 100 percent participation in whatever course of action the team took during the national anthem.
When asked by a reporter about Villanueva coming out for the anthem, Tomlin said, Like I said, I was looking for 100 percent participation, we were gonna be respectful of our football team.
Villaneuva played in college at West Point Military Academy before going on to become an Army Ranger. He served three tours in Afghanistan and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Valor. He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2014, before later joining the Steelers.
I think it was majority rule.
It's also dangerous to the players brains, so the Surgeon General needs to put in place a requirement that the outer shell of the helmets must be at least three feet from the skull.
A speed limit will be enforced so that any player hitting another player at a speed greater that 10 mi/h will be ejected from the game and prosecuted for assault with intent to inflict permanent grievous harm to the player's brain.
Tackling will be banned. A flag shall be pulled out of the pocket of a runner to stop his (or her) forward motion.
Also, teams must put away an additional 25% of each player's salary to cover their nursing home costs and health care after they retire with a skull full of mush.
It’s time to start targeting NFL sponsors. A boycott is in order.
The NFL’s contract public relations crisis management hirelings sent out some talking points for teams to use.
When one player did the right thing and Tomlin realized his tit was in the ringer he panicked because he couldn't find the emergency release fast enough. So he garbled the message.
And we're here saying “that doesn't make any sense.” Because it doesn't.
Goodbye NFL/Steelers in my house, and I was a PS fan in earlier years.
That post is “fake news.” There is no page “A62” or “A”-anything in the NFL rulebook.
We need a list of NFL commercial sponsors.
There goes my respect for Tomlin.
“The NFL chose to ignore their own rulebook.
The specific rule pertaining to the national anthem is found on pages A62-63 of the NFL League Rulebook. It states:
The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem.
During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition...
...It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses. “
Thank you for posting this. I had never heard this and I do follow the news.
In fact, I have heard it said that this is something the NFL “has no control over.”
Again, thanks for setting the record straight.
Add anti-American leftist.
The guy is a mountain!
I agree. I am more than willing to write or call, because I agree with Trump. Let me know if anyone posts the list.
............the NFL reminds me of that story about the guy who shot one toe off, then another and another and another.......................and so on................until they were all gone...........!
Haters gotta hate.
Im pretty sure that Alejandro Villanueva could terminate the career or life of any of his cowardly teammates or opponents in an instant, should he choose to do so.
And make it look like an unfortunate accident.....
Bible, golf, women’s v.ball, baseball, time with the pets today.
NFL: “hut hut” holding, hut hut holding, hut hut interference, hut hut false start, hut hut off side, hut hut encroachment, hut hut personal foul, hut hut crack back, hut hut delay of game....hut hut.
Mock them for it.
Thanks for posting.
The NFLs problem is that players are 75% Black while payers are 95% white
