The San Francisco 49ers Thursday night game against the Los Angeles Rams kicked off in front of a nearly empty stadium.
Los Angeles Times reporter Lindsey Thiry tweeted a photo at the time of kickoff, which showed thousands of open seats. In fact, most sections in the photo have more empty seats than fans.

ESPNs Darren Rovell reported that 63,500 tickets had been sold for the game, but of course, simply selling a ticket doesnt mean the buyer will actually show up to the game.
Its hard to believe there are more than 30,000 people in the stadium, judging from the photos.
The 49ers sold 63,500 tickets to this game. But 5:30 local start, being 0-2, vs a week opponent gives you this crowd ( by @colinresch) pic.twitter.com/eJyCSSQodV

Even close to halftime, the stadium was not close to being full.

Do You Think The NFL Is Losing Popularity?

This is not a great look for the NFL. TV ratings are already on the decline, and now people arent even going to the games.
The NFL is the crown jewel of American sports. It cant be overstated how awful the optics of an empty stadium for a primetime game is.
NFL management needs to isolate the problem and fix it before things continue to spiral downward
Yep...scarcity makes a thing a LOT more valuable. I’m with you on that basic schedule approach. 24x7 games, “analysis” (i.e. inane blather with some real stupid people), widespread virulent politics, endless black grievances. Who needs any of that giant pile of misery?
Its California - which is important.
Conservatives/traditionalists in San Francisco are a small and oppressed political minority. Like all minorities, they are conscious of their status, without being told or threatened directly.
They know most government and societal institutions are against them, so they lay low and do not speak out.
there is a venue or event that is neutral, they will come out. California is a “thought leader” among leftists in the USA, and they have signaled that the NFL is now a political battlefield. Once it has been demonstrated they are not welcome, traditionalists will retreat - not out of protest, but out of fear and discomfort.
The only jobs they qualify for are:
1: The Sub-Sahara African Mombak
2: The Moteaza
3: and The Hodedo
and of course, possibly, the Yawancheezondat
Tax laws are pretty strict about deducting pro sports tickets. Corporations buy them, but that doesn’t mean they’re deductible.
NFL players can always fall back on their drug dealing and dog fighting side jobs.
It’s wrong to conclude that selling the tickets is what matters for the bottom line. They get the ticket revenue but lose out on parking, concessions, merchandise - and next year’s ticket sales. This is going to cost them for years to come, and I will cheer every step of the way.
Caught some “highlights” on local news.
NFL uniforms have gone totally goofy.
Right, and there's absolutely no reason to pander to a small number of spoiled Black NFL players.
The NBA has an even higher proportion of Blacks, but it also has guidelines in place which prevent disrespect for the national anthem and flag. NBA players who want to push their politics can (and do) do so "off the clock".
There's no reason the NFL can't be doing the same. Indeed, the stupidity of the League management is absolutely breathtaking. If they corrected their idiocy, this porblem would disappear virtually overnight—notwithstanding all the CTE hysteria.
As for me, my attitude closely parallels that of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Jerry Jones: Cowboys Will Stand For The Flag Or Your Ass Will Be Off The Team.
That's leadership. Far too many other NFL owners and head coaches—such as, unfortunately, Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross and head coach Adam Gase (my team)—have instead chosen cowardice...

Imagine what it will look like in December as the Niners are heading towards a 2-14 season. Maybe they can fill Levi’s Stadium with all those homeless people in SF to pump up their attendance numbers.
It might have been half full because of the following:
1. Both Teams Stink
2. Fans could stay home and watch the game on NFL Network
3. It is Thursday night and a lot of fans have to get up
and go to work on Friday.
About a week ago, we had a rare rain delay in a SF Giant Game.
The local NBC sport channel switched over to some talking heads.
One brought up the lack of fans at the Former Niner games.
The fat guy, a co host, went on a canned pitch that it was too hot on the east side of Levi Stadium to sit in the sun.
Then he lied even more and said the fans were watching the game from the various closed circuit tvs in the stadium to avoid the heat.
Well, there was no hot sun last night to keep fans from sitting on the east side or anywhere.
The “Dixie Chickening” of the Former niners, the NFL, ESPN and Disney needs to continue.
$crew then by not going nor watching any NFL in your face tv programs.
September should be “NFL Domestic Abuse Awareness Month”. All fans should sit during the ntional anthem that month.
I only saw the highlights, and I’m guessing that it was “classic jerseys” night or something. I’m a Seahawks fan, and watching old highlights, their neon jerseys they wore one time always catch me by surprise. BRIGHT!
The NFL is dead, they murdered it with their own hands!
I, like millions of former NFL fans used to really enjoy NFL football for decades but no more. You see the assumption is that our problem with the NFL is about "politics"; it isn't. As a matter of fact the problem isn't about politics at all, its about traditional values, patriotism and our love of country.
What has been and is actively and intentionally taking place is an attack by the NFL on America, patriotism, traditional American values, our culture and our very way of life. This is reality.
Multitudes of NFL players, owners, the commissioner and others within the NFL are intentionally seeking to destroy the country from within using the NFL as a platform and one of their means of accomplishing this goal.
The NFL is no longer just a "game". They view and are using it as a platform and tool for their perverse social engineering and not so subtle goal of "the fundamental transformation of America."
Millions of patriotic, freedom loving, former NFL fans have rightfully come to the conclusion that the NFL in reality now HATES America, patriotism, traditional American values, and white people, ESPECIALLY WHITE MALES (combined these demographics constitute about 93% of their entire NFL fan base) and looks upon and treats its own fans and customer base with utter contempt and disdain. Hence, the National Felon League is no longer worthy of their support, money, time, and emotional energy.
Why would ANY NFL fan continue to support an organization and "game" that actively promotes these perversely destructive goals and habitually acts this way? The answer is readily found in the massive desertion of the NFL's former fan base throughout our entire country = former NFL fans love America, more than we love a mere game.
The NFL has brought about its own destruction by its own hands.
We are seeing the death of football as a spectator sport here in the United States, part of a long campaign to eliminate football altogether from the sports arenas, both on the professional level, and in the scholastic venues (college and high school). Stories about former players, their careers shortened by traumatic injuries and brain damage from repeated concussions, and their financial and emotional problems, are appearing much more often, and even some criminal activity by former professional players is being inscribed in this narrative.
The NFL shall have disappeared completely within another decade, and most colleges and high schools shall drop their participation in the various conferences perhaps even before that.
The “disrespect” some players are showing is only one aspect of the whole push to discredit the game altogether.
And you still don’t think this is orchestrated?
Stop giving them your money to insult you.
I believe this game was a combination of factors.
- unpatriotic protests
- feminization
- terrible team
- game started at 5 PM PT, in San Fran
At kickoff the stadium was eventually empty. As the game went on the stadium filled to about 50%. For a televised game I’m sure people were allowed to upgraded thier seats. Rush hour traffic also probably played a role with people being late.
Overall not good optics for the NFL.
