For the first time in its 250-year history, a woman will be joining the ranks of the Marine Corps as an infantry officer, the U.S. military said Thursday.
The lieutenant, whose name was not revealed, is expected to graduate from the grueling, 13-week infantry officer course Monday, the training center said in a statement released to The Washington Post.
ABC News confirmed the historic first.
Three dozen women have attempted to complete the course, and all but one have failed. About 25 percent of all trainees do not complete the course.
The Pentagon opened up all ground combat roles in the military to women in 2016.
Three unnamed officials told the Post the class will mark its graduation with a "warrior breakfast" at Quantico Marine Base in Virginia.
35 (failed)/ 36 Attempts= 97.2% failure rate.
So glad she made it on merit
I don’t care if she did pass. Women do not belong in the infantry.
“Three dozen women have attempted to complete the course, and all but one have failed. About 25 percent of all trainees do not complete the course.”
Congratulations to that Marine! I wonder if a 1/36th pass-rate points to a problem? Is it really an efficient use of resources to train/test 36 applicants to get 1 that will pass. Maybe if you’re training SEALs or ParaRescue Airmen, but infantry officers?
At least 1 of the 2 isn't. I recall that she was an army aviator and the elder of the 2 women to pass.
Can’t be sure it isn’t a man who says he is a woman. Could be why no name released.
All of the officers in the chain of command who approved of putting this woman in an infantry position should be court martialed for giving aid and comfort to the enemy.
What a great American!
If she made it there is is more than qualified. You should appreciate her service.
As a former Marine 64 - 71, an invigorating SW Asia tour as a grunt, her assignment to run a Platoon of grunts......which was a political assignment, will not end well for the grunts.
She will have to prove she has a set of balls bigger than Andre the Giant while not stamping down the quirks of a Marine platoon.
Pity the fools.... the PC climate the military lives in today will only add more deaths to the Corps.
Just wondering how many Marines in her platoon/Company will immediately put in for a transfer? I know I would be in that long line.
Not counting the rules that were bent or overlooked to get her there!
The thought of practicality continues to plague me on this subject. If you need to pee in the field with all your gear on,isn’t it easier to whip it out than having to squat? And wouldn’t slinging a purse under your arm get in the way of your rifle?
I weep for the Marine Corps I joined 52 years ago.
What a sick joke on those who will suffer/die as a result of this PC move.
By my math a 1 in 36 success rate is a success rate of 2.7%, but I may be wrong.
That would equal a failure rate of 97.3%.
But again, I am not a mathy person.
“But again, I am not a mathy person.”
Maybe not but, in this case, you are correct.
You are correct sir. It makes one wonder why would you have a program for women that has such a high fail rate. Tokenism at its worst.
I guess you have to throw in a cross dresser or lesbo that throws a curve into everything.
Not sure, just my guess but a gut feel and my cricket is on its back doing the cricket dance which really does not mean anything except it is going to rain in a week or so.
Yeah, volunteered for a six moth tour extension fall of 68 if they would transfer me to a helo squadron.
I agree with you.
