Mount Rainier is seen from a helicopter flying south of the mountain and west of Yakima in this 2013 photo. Scientists recorded a recent quake swarm under the mountain. (Elaine Thompson / The Associated Press)

More than 20 small quakes have struck under the volcano in the past week, a rate thats higher than usual but not unprecedented.
Nearly two dozen small earthquakes have rattled Mount Rainier over the past week, but seismologists say theres no cause for worry.
In the past, these swarms last a couple of days to a week or so and then die out, said Paul Bodin, of the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network at the University of Washington.
The first of the 23 quakes struck on Sept. 11 near the volcanos summit. The largest of the quakes registered magnitude 1.6.

Didn't Mt. ST. HELENS show the same right before it blew?...................
“seismologists say theres no cause for worry.”
In light of events over the past few weeks, if I lived near there, I’d worry.
So ignore the science data and go with your visceral feelings?
Doesn't sound like a very good way to live your life.
Pardon me for not believing scientific consensus. What year were the Himalayas supposed to melt again?
Thanks for posting the pic.. I miss real mountains.
When someone says, “Theres no cause for worry.
I worry........................
Tell me the last time seismological science data predicted an earthquake.
“theres no cause for worry. In the past, these swarms last a couple of days to a week or so and then die out.
A of of swarms, and a lot of Ring of Fire activity.
Their new spokesman....................
Concerning Yellowstone: Fox 32 Denver posted September 20th.
According to FOX31s sister station, there have been 1,200 earthquakes in the park since the beginning of June.
I really love this statement contained in the article:
We get a lot of calls as to whether people should cancel plans to go to Yellowstone and the answer is decisively no, he said. This is how volcanoes act, and its pretty normal.
Seismological data is a lot more predictive than whatever juju you're relying on.
How much would you like to wager that Mt. Ranier doesn't have a major seismic event in 2017?
“How much would you like to wager that Mt. Ranier doesn’t have a major seismic event in 2017?”
Nothing. But I will wager $100 that it does have one.
No, mt St. Helens had a more significant seismic prelude.
You're on...loser donates $100 to Free Republic.
See you in January and in the mean time keep your shaman away from the crocodiles.
Harmonic tremors?
St. Helens had a lot more activity before erupting including deformation of the ground and much more earthquake activity. When you get a bulge on the flank of Rainer you should get out of the way.
The thing is, before Saint Helens first erupted, not the May 18th eruption but the initial March 27th eruption, there were no warnings. It just started spewing ash. Granted, it was small amounts of ash, but it was an eruption nonetheless. The harmonic tremors then began in earnest after the March 27th eruption.
Where do you get this shaman crap?
I’m just saying 3 or 4 hurricanes ( I lost count) in a few weeks is unusual, and something else unusual could happen. Nothing to do with juju stuff.
Mount Rainier is so beautiful.
Lets hope it STAYS THAT WAY!....................
