Man, ESPN just can't seem to get it together.
In light of the Jemele Hill controversy this week (in which the host of SC6 formerly SportsCenter tweeted that Donald Trump is a white supremacist), it's helpful to review all of the problems the media juggernaut has created for itself. In March, I wrote The Top 5 Reasons ESPN's Ratings Are in Freefall. Things have only gotten worse since that time, with over 100 highly paid on-air personalities and other employees having been laid off in April in a cost-cutting move.
ESPN seems to want to continue to double down on everything it's doing wrong. The results are predictable for anyone who isn't on the mothership. It's inconceivable that parent company Disney is pleased with ESPN's steadfast refusal to reverse course.
Here are five more reasons the network is failing:
1. Monday Night Football ratings are still down
...
2. ESPN isn't entertaining
...
3. The model is antiquated nobody needs SportsCenter anymore
...
4. They're doubling down on alienating potential audiences
...
5. Yes, people are noticing the double standards

Breaks my heart.
Honestly cannot stand the yelling and street slang used by analysts. This behavior is on ESPN, FoxNews, and other media programs. I tune it out — garbage.
Oh, and so can Disney.
I wish I could completely turn off ESPN, but I can’t as a sports junkie. However, I still only watch MNF, college football and College Gameday on that network and nothing else. I used to watch Sportscenter, but stopped watching years ago.
Same here. My husband and I used to watch Mike and Mike every morning and then I sometimes left it on for whatever show came on afterwards once he left for work.
In the past 2 years I’ve watched it one time (when they were here in Tampa for the National Championship game - and my Clemson alum husband was in the audience).
Buying a ticket to an NFL game is the same as making a donation to the Democrat Party...
Is there a Fox Sports Channel, and if not, why not? It doesn’t have to be full time either. Just key games and sports without the leftist bullshit commentary and stupid announcers.
“Political correctness has gone berserk. “
That’s the word I’ve been looking for-—berserk.
.
They strive so hard to be multicultural. There is a commentary show now that typically features two blacks and one Hispanic - this is what passes on ESPN for multicultural in the US. Oh, plus the sideline sluts for NFL games.
Fox Sports One and Fox Sports Two.
Their problem is that ESPN has been very effective at locking in the best games especially in football.
And too many providers don’t carry them.
Just watch the ads on any of the cable channels ... I won’t spell it out, but reality remains reality.
Sound just like me!
“I wish I could completely turn off ESPN, but I cant as a sports junkie.”
You personify what’s wrong with our country. Your just a different kind of drug addict who has to “ get a fix” by watching Black people make inordinate amounts of money off of you and your ilk, and then use it to screw you and your country. You are unprincipled!
Is it failing?
ESPN really overpaid for a lot of these programs after which their ratings went right down. They are finding it hard to make money on their investments. I don’t see NFL ratings going back to where they were before, with all this disrespecting of the flag and the national anthem.
