Hurricane Jose has been hanging around, waiting for attention in the wake of Hurricane Irma. Newcomer Maria threatens to impact the Caribbean Islands already devastated by Hurricane Irma, and brushed by Jose. Hurricane Jose threatens to brush or impact New England. Lee appears to be a fish storm at this time.

Local news wx guy said Puerto Rico has been in the path of Cat 4 hurricanes only three times in recent history. These include 1928 San Felipe, 1979 David and 1989 Hugo.

Satellite data shows #Maria now as a CAT 5 hurricane. We’ll have to wait and see what the Hurricane Hunters find. twitter.com/splillo/status

Now officially a Cat 5, winds 160 mph with higher gusts.
Approximately 2, 2 1/2 hours from a probable direct hit on Dominica.
Prayers for the people there.

St Croix is going to get it this time, it managed to escape Irma. Yeah... it does appear so. We have friends who have a vacation villa on St. Croix (they often rent it out). I'll bet they're pretty worried about Maria right now...

Yeah, it was. But it didn’t last long as a Cat 4.
Now it’s a Cat 5 with 160 mph sustained, gusts to 200. French radar shows eyewall hitting now. Landfall may be sooner than originally thought, not sure on that.
Pray.

It’s a great site. A mix of very hardy and knowledgeable weather geeks along with newbies and just interested non-pros. Several professional meteorologists as well.
Nearly sick thinking of Dominica.

Talked to my sis in Kingwood, TX last night. their house was not flooded or damaged, because, she said, she knew how to read a flood plain map before buying it 15 years ago. But Kingwood in general is a mess, stores closed, windows, doors, signs torn off, insides flooded and reeking. They are about 20 miles from Houston and the unimaginable wreckage there. Even so, she’s going to start buying groceries from AMZ because she doesn’t believe anything for sale in Houston area grocery stores could be safe from mold and worse.
