ESPN head to staff: ESPN is not a political organization
ESPN's chief is defending the network after intense backlash this week, including a stream of White House criticism over anchor Jemele Hill calling President Trump a "white supremacist."
"We have issues of significant debate in our country at this time," ESPN president John Skipper wrote in a memo to staff on Friday reported by multiple media outlets.
"In light of recent events, we need to remind ourselves that we are a journalistic organization and that we should not do anything that undermines that position," he continued, noting, "ESPN is about sports."
"ESPN is not a political organization. Where sports and politics intersect, no one is told what view they must express," he said.
"At the same time, ESPN has values," Skipper continued, writing ESPN is "committed to inclusion and an environment of tolerance where everyone in a diverse work force has the equal opportunity to succeed."

You deny them eyes which will reduce how much power they have to charge for programming and advertising
ESP could be taken down tomorrow if every male who voted for Trump stopped watching it.
Oh, I am not criticizing you. They are on my cable package as well and I just don’t watch them. I am just explaining to some who are not aware that they have a lock on cable revenue.
They have Fox Sports1 to apply to, but are we really now going to have a ‘conservative’ sports channel and a ‘liberal’ sports channel? That just sounds stupid.
The beauty of Sports is that it brings people of all backgrounds, economic statuses, color, and cultures together in a common cause. Game time is when we’ve always been able to put our differences aside and just be happy. ESPN has decided they would rather lecture half the country than embrace something that actually worked to everyone’s benefit in our society. The entire situation is sad.
LMAO! I quit watching them years ago and haven’t looked back. May your ratings fall deep into the sewer you spew.
+1
Spot on!
Winning!
Used to love those Sports Centers commercials. One I remember was Rodger Clements was at the copy machine copying K’s and a mascot of some sort walked right by him.
