Must disagree with Bill Clinton as Dem dark horse in ‘92.
He had the luxury of beating a split ticket when Ross Perot jumped in with the sole purpose of derailing GHWB.
Dukakis lost to GHWB in 1988 with 44% of the vote.
Clinton won in 1992 with a plurality of 43%.
I think we may be talking about different things here.
I was referring to how the Democrat primary field in 1992 was very small, because leading Democrats did not want to take on Bush 41, fearing he would easily defeat them in the general election. So Bill Clinton, who at the time was little known nationally, was able to dominate a small group of primary contenders in the Democrat primaries.
I agree completely about the general election. Nobody ever remembers that Ross Perot was a big factor, and that Bill got only 43% of the vote.
If Bill Clinton had lost the ‘92 election, would we have ever heard again from Hillary?????
