I think we may be talking about different things here.
I was referring to how the Democrat primary field in 1992 was very small, because leading Democrats did not want to take on Bush 41, fearing he would easily defeat them in the general election. So Bill Clinton, who at the time was little known nationally, was able to dominate a small group of primary contenders in the Democrat primaries.
I agree completely about the general election. Nobody ever remembers that Ross Perot was a big factor, and that Bill got only 43% of the vote.
If Bill Clinton had lost the ‘92 election, would we have ever heard again from Hillary?????
I recall that before Clinton clinched the nomination the Democratic field was known as “six pack & pepperoni”, a reference to His Arrogance, Pope Mario Cuomo.
Cuomo took himself out of the running by outdoing even Hillary in blaming others; he pre-blamed the electorate for non-electing him President, by describing himself as “too liberal, too ethnic, too urban, and too northern” to be acceptable to the unwashed masses of Middle America. His vain nature would not countenance an electoral contest that was anything less than guaranteed victory.
And yes, Hillary hitched herself to Bill’s coattails in 1975 & would have been an utter unknown otherwise. What’s hard to underestimate is just how disconnected she was & still is from reality, made & kept so by generations of sycophants who unceasingly sing her praises.
