Your paper published a Washington Post column by Marc Thiessen (Sept. 1) that claimed that the John Birch Society was anti-Semitic. When the error was brought to light by victims of this nasty falsehood, the phrase “widely believed” was added in as cover. This is dishonest and reprehensible.
First, let’s set the record straight. The Society is not and never has been anti-Semitic. In fact, when the California Senate investigated this in the early 1960s, it concluded that “our investigations have disclosed no evidence of anti-Semitism on the part of anyone connected with the John Birch Society in California, and much evidence to the effect that it opposes racism in all forms.”
This was obvious, considering the prominent Jewish leaders on the Society’s National Council from its founding. The Society has always had a policy of expelling any anti-Semitic infiltrators.
Secondly, the column praises William Buckley for having allegedly “excommunicated” JBS from the “respectable right.” Ironically, Buckley wrote in his magazine National Review that whites, as the “advanced race,” had every right to deny black people the vote.
The JBS, by contrast, published the work of black members in its own publications from its earliest days, and expelled racists. Let’s deal in facts.

Actually, Thibodeaux, there have been several demographic profiles compiled regarding JBS members. Most JBS members are under 50 years of age.

Are there OTHER categories of human beings whom you consider suspect because they tend to fall into some description you do not like?
What percentage of “Jews” would be so unremarkable that you would never bring it up as worthy of discussion? or concern?

Although I know you will not accept anything I write because of your bile and venom, I will provide some additional details:
1. The reason I purchased two computers within one year of each other is because I was having constant problems with the first one from the first day it was installed. In fact, I had to re-install Windows and all my software THREE times before I could get my PC to work minimally.
2. Because of that recurring problem, I was not able to always save pertinent information concerning all my user names and passwords OR even what email address I used to create my original account. In fact, as you must know, when you have to re-install your operating system, you LOSE everything which has not been backed up.
3. OK—so then I purchased a new PC.
And from day one I experienced similar problems with that new PC. AGAIN: I had to re-install Windows and my software!
I later discovered that my major problem concerned my software (Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office) because they were not compatible with my new operating system (at that time I think I was using Windows 8 or 8.1). After literally spending HOURS on the phone with Dell Technical Support - it finally got corrected—but only AFTER Windows updated their operating system.
4. HOWEVER — I did not have uncorrupted saved copies of all my files — including the document where I listed my user names and passwords. I was getting bizarre error messages every time when I attempted to open a Word doc.
5. When everything finally settled down, and I went to Free Republic again (after a long absence) I did not remember what user names went with what passwords so I thought it would just be easier to create an entirely new user name/password which was searching123.
6. At NO time was my use of different screen names intended to conceal who I was — because, obviously, anybody who asked me for my email address always got the same information, i.e. ernie1241@aol.com
7. IF (as you claim) I was “banned” — then please tell everybody WHY that happened? and when did it occur? I have never violated the terms of service here.
I answered your question concerning why some Jews are leftists. So what are you complaining about?
But what makes you think that the JBS is “all but defunct”?
What evidence would you want to see for you to change your opinion?
Why would an “almost defunct” organization exist for 59 consecutive years and have annual revenue of MILLIONS of dollars?

What about other demographic categories?
Do you have any concern regarding the percentage of hispanics who typically vote for left-wing candidates?
How about Puerto Ricans?
How about Christian evangelicals? Does it bother you or is it concerning to you what percentage of them tend to favor right-wing politicians?

I previously asked you about white Christian Protestants who historically have made up a MUCH HIGHER percentage of white supremacist organizations than any comparable percentage of “Jews” who are “leftist”. So both in terms of percentage AND in terms of actual numbers — does THAT bother you?

BTW — as I am writing this, my computer guy is coming over to install yet another new PC (although this one worked fine for the past few years).
Fortunately, I have backed up everything so I have all my user names/passwords and email addresses I used to create my accounts.
BUT — I also am installing totally new Adobe and Microsoft software again so I have my fingers crossed that I will not go through what occurred previously.
If any of you guys choose to post any replies, I will be offline for at least the rest of today and perhaps longer.
Point of personal privilege: I wish JUST ONCE — that instead of attacking me, you could address the actual subject matter of this thread. I have tried to answer (honestly) every question I’ve been asked — but you guys just ignore the substance and go off on a tangent to try to demonize and discredit me. Wouldn’t it be more productive to engage in civil conversation?

I’m sorry Garth, but I don’t see the point of constantly responding to your insults and ad hominem slurs. But I guess you prefer to attack and defame people rather than substantively address whatever is written. You are nothing more than a bully who has no interest in honest discussion.
I suggest you seek professional help. Maybe a therapist can help you deal with your personal anger issues and your total inability to respond in a civil fashion to substance.
Also suggest you exit this thread since, in your scheme of things, nothing being discussed here is worthy of an intelligent conversation.
Lastly (not for you — but for anybody reading this exchange), imagine you are in a situation where you cannot operate your computer normally — even though it is a new computer. Suppose you constantly got error messages AND you never saved all your passwords and user names and email addresses which you used to create your accounts. IF you eventually got your computer to work — and you wanted to return to some website to participate in a forum discussion (regardless of what subject is being discussed), wouldn’t you think it was easier to start from scratch and use a new user name?
The ultimate point remains the same. REGARDLESS of what user name I use, I always give people the option of contacting me directly if they have questions or comments or criticisms. My primary AOL email address has not changed since the very first time I owned a computer in 2002 (ernie1241@aol.com) AND, more importantly, no matter what screen name I use — my comments are consistent — regardless of what subject I discuss.
The ONLY reason somebody might be legitimately concerned about different user names is if the user was presenting DIFFERENT positions under multiple screen names. Nobody believes that about me.
I will NOT respond to further personal insults or attacks. But anybody who genuinely wants to discuss the actual subject matter of this thread (or any other thread) will always get an honest reply from me.
