Checking back in. Special needs shelter I worked at lost power, went to generator, took about 10 minutes to make the switch, pretty scary for the patients that needed electricity, lots of leaks but roof held. I set up a ham radio station to the county emergency operations center. Ceiling tile got soaked and fell right where my station was, but I moved just a couple minutes before. Put a large trashcan to catch it and made all the patients smile when it happened so soon after. I kept reassuring them that it was just a little leak and all was fine. They liked listening to the local Emergency Coordinator on the radio. Then the staff got panicky when their radios started having trouble, until they used the ham radios to talk directly to the EOC. That allowed them to focus on the needs of the shelter residents... Until two of our repeater towers failed and I had to use my mobile radio. Spent the last few hours sitting in the comfort of my truck in a inset doorway protected from the storm in perfect radio contact. The shelter never needed to use us, but we were there if they did. Verizon cell service keep service thru the entire event. Just made it home, trees down everywhere but none on my house or cars, didnt loose a shingle. Haven’t slept in a couple days, time to rest then get the generator fired up for A/C and chainsaw to start clearing limbs. Sorry for long ramble, but off to sleep now
