The entire Florida Peninsula has begun to experience Hurricane Irma following landfall at Marco Island. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Prayers for all in the storm path.

FREE REPUBLIC was the go-to site for accurate weather reporting during our recent hurricanes. That alone is reason enough to wrap this FREEPATHON up by today.
Woo hoo!! And now less than $11.5k to go!! Let’s git ‘er done!! [Freepathon LXXIII]

Be fair, had the storm not run into Cuba, and if the track had remained just off the west coast of Florida, instead of slamming inland around Naples, it would have been a completely different story. Just be glad that it turned out to be more of a nuisance than a catastrophe.
Member of my Family and a neighbor own waterfront Mobile Homes in St. James City. Just heard NO Damage.
Thank God Again!
It was supposed to be a disaster??
How many times does “the little boy”(msm), cry “Wolf”?
For my niece and her family in central Florida, this is a disaster. Her home was completely flooded. Her backyard is now a real lake, several feet deep. Fortunately they stayed with other family members during the storm. This will be a doozy of a clean up for her and others near her.
Good to hear from you, and learn you are —relatively—unscathed!
Thanks again for the blessings you give us Freepers through your Hurricane threads!
Looks like Jacksonville has some pretty bad flooding issues.

NautiNurse, I’m so glad to read you came through this without too much damage! Thanks for all you’ve done in the past few days.
Seriously? If Irma hadn't spent so much time along the Cuban coast, it would have been far worse for Florida. And the NHC nailed the forecast for Harvey, including the catastrophic flooding.
Hurricanes are fickle. By the time you know just how bad it's going to be, it's too late to react if things are really bad. Yeah, the media hypes effects, but that does not change the underlying reality of the difficulty with intensity forecasts.
It most certainly could have been as bad as forecast.
See post 722 for the factors that came into play to help dimish the storm and then thank God for it instead of criticizing so much.
To his credit, Founder and CEO/CTO Alexey Gavrilov has made it expressly clear on their blog that Zello is not intended as a replacement for instructions from government emergency agencies or sanctioned rescue organizations.
It is not a hurricane rescue tool and is only as useful as the people who use it, and as reliable as the data network available. If there is no WiFi and no cellular data service, communication apps (including Zello) wont work.
In the meantime, FKECA officials plan to start preliminary damage assessments on Monday using a helicopter to check on facilities in Marathon.
The utility added that there was no cell phone, land line telephone or internet service at least from Marathon through Key West.

Well the greens at Augusta National should be nice and green for awhile.
Best link yet! Photos stunning, others poignant.
Great POST!
Lives have been lost. The “hype” was best guess and saved mamy. I’m thankful all were forced to prepare and screwed their heads on, well braced all the uncertainty, twists and turns of Irma.
I criticise none of it. THANK you for the post.
Too many people focus on the wind aspect of hurricanes (as does the Safford-Simpson scale), but water is the main killer and damage causer. Katrina, Ike and Sandy are prime examples of that.
People say sand gets into everything. Wrong! Water gets into everything. Amazing property of it. Good News! Mechanic told me my truck will live again after being Harvey flooded.
This was about a 5 hurricane wise
I’ve been flooded it’s not fun but this was not a major hurricane but it did affect a large population area
Harvey affected many more much worse
Andrew was a monster
Camille was the Charles Manson of hurricanes
The keys 1935 I think storm another biggie
The Galveston storm yuge
Hazel and Betsy and Frederic and Wilma and Ike and even overhyped Sandy
All worse
And they are still hyping it
It’s just dishonest
And it’s crying wolf and takes on an immediate political tone
Was your family in flood plain or overlay waiver ?
Most freepers don’t realize you have to qualify for flood insurance
You don’t just buy it cause u want it
U need a Corps justification
If Andrew had hit 20 miles north of where it did, it would have been 10 times worse.
As crazy as it sounds, South Florida did dodge a bullet with Andrew.
Imagine there will be a push to get tourists to return. Money talks.
I get it. What happened to my niece and to others like her is not significant statistically.
I’m happy that this storm wasn’t quite the disaster that some might have been hoping for.
Count yourselves blessed, those of you who were or are minimally impacted by Irma.
