Politico editor: We discard ‘dozens’ of potential hires over toxic Twitter feeds
Washington Post ^ | September 8, 2017 | Erik Wemple

Posted on 09/10/2017 7:44:25 AM PDT by C19fan

In a social-media workshop with staff members on Friday, Sudeep Reddy, a managing editor at Politico, said that the organization discards “dozens” of job applications and referrals over inappropriate, partisan or puerile tweets. “We are deliberately nonpartisan in the kind of journalism that we pursue,” Reddy told the Erik Wemple Blog after the meeting. Politico vets “hundreds” of possible hires per week, said Reddy. “We have found on Twitter feeds revealing insight into how people write.”

After tossing 85% of the resumes in the circular file a smart employer refines the hiring process by vetting candidates on social media.

So many instant self-disqualifications on Facebook that it's a wonder any applicant gets an interview, these days.

“Once you get to the point in your career where you can apply at someplace like Politico, you will have had a Twitter because it’s a tool 99.9% of journos uses.”

And these same people will scold Trump for using Twitter. They think it is effective for them to use, which is why they want Trump to stop using it.

What’s to stop someone from lying that they DO NOT have such an account(s)? False names, etc....

Today's social media generation is too vain to set up accounts under fake names. They WANT people to know what they are thinking!

Their current reporters all have gravely partisan Twitter feeds.

My firsst thought when I read the headline was someone is gonna fact check that statement.

I don’t have a twitter or LinkedIn account or a blog or anything. I admit to a fake Facebook that is used ONLY for looking at links from FR threads. Now, if they knew about my FR...

If they can ask to read your online posts (under any identity) outside of linkdin which is ostensibly used to network for job hires, then they may freely ask of any and all organizations you belong to, political, apolitical, religious, sexual.

Everyone does understand that Politico is actually just an arm of the Washington Post, right?
***********
And WaPo is an arm of the CIA funding Bezoz with $600M (WaPo was bought for $250M) ... nothing but propaganda.

Some basics never change--(1) don't put in writing or recording anything you might be embarrassed about (if you can't say it to Mom or Grandma, maybe you should think twice about it), (2) you will be judged by your associations, and (3) you will be judged by how you dress.

Politico is lying to say no bias on their part but otherwise what they are doing is nothing that any diligent prospective employer would do. And if it is not illegal (e.g., race, ethnicity, religion, gender), then, right or wrong, it is fair game.

“There’s no need to let anybody know anything about your private life.”

We have a similar family tradition.

Common looking cars and no vanity plates.
For you never know when you might have to ‘take it on the lam’.

This is one area where a large percentage of the kids in the hood are rather far ahead of the curve. No Facebook account is in a real name (T-bone, Princess ZZ, boujii bae, etc), most have multiple accounts if they are on there at all, and aside from photos, personal or location details are almost never shared.

“And they wonder why I try to keep my real-world identity private.”

Even back in the days of CompuServe, there were instances of false accusations to law enforcement and Molotov cocktails.

My Space was originally created to help independent musicians get recognition for their music.

I am more than happy to share my twitter account. My boss follows me. Why? I use it to connect with other people with the same hobby. So its mostly pictures of edible plants. It demonstrates that I am a well rounded purpose.

Social Media is great if you use it for a specific purpose. When you use it to display your life or harangue family with your views, then it becomes a problem.
