After Siding With Dems, Trump Responds to GOP Criticism With a Reminder
Townhall.com ^ | September 8, 2017 | Courtney O'Brian

Republicans on Capitol Hill are surprised and "confounded" that the leader of their party, President Trump, sided with top Democrats in the debt ceiling debate this week, hiking it for three months.

He even earned a bit of rare praise from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Then, Trump twisted the knife even further by taking the advice of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi in regards to DACA. At her urging, the president tweeted out a rather compassionate message for illegal immigrants who currently benefit from the program. They don't have to worry during the six-month delay, Trump told them.

What gives, the GOP wondered.

Trump, hearing the criticism, immediately pounced on the opportunity to send this reminder.

Republicans, sorry, but I've been hearing about Repeal & Replace for 7 years, didn't happen! Even worse, the Senate Filibuster Rule will....— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 8, 2017

...never allow the Republicans to pass even great legislation. 8 Dems control - will rarely get 60 (vs. 51) votes. It is a Repub Death Wish!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 8, 2017

In other words (those that can't fit in a tweet), if Republicans failed so miserably in regards to health care - something they've been screaming about for seven years - how can they be trusted to enact meaningful tax reform and rein in our debt?

A few Republican leaders, who although admit they were taken aback by Trump's reaching out to Democrats, acknowledged that this is an OK short term solution. House Speaker Paul Ryan told the press Thursday that while not ideal, it is "perfectly reasonable and rational."

On Twitter, the president urged Republicans "to start the Tax Reform/Tax Cut legislation ASAP."

"Hurry!"

The Republicans in Congress have been absolutely worthless. It’s nice to see President Trump call them out for it.

Trump is as rational as his base. We believe in practical solutions now. The President needs 60 votes in the senate to pass anything because McConnel will not go back to “Mr Smith goes to Washington” filibuster rules. Unlike the Republicans, The President and the Dems know the key to Washington is 60 votes in the senate, ANY 60 votes. The GOPe can get on board the Trump train and support the Pres and America, or be left behind while the Pres cuts compromise deals. We would like our GOP party to govern like conservative Statesmen, we would like to see 100% win-win legislation. But if Lyin Ryan and crybaby Mitch can’t get it together, 60-40 comprimises move us away from Obama’s nightmare.
We will remember the GOPe in the primaries, goodbye Ryan!

What I find funny in all this is the Donkeys heaped all the scorn imaginable on Trump. Nazi. White supremacist and nationalist. Misogynist. Xenophobe. Deplorable. Not fit for polite company.

You'd think a guy like that would make one morally suspect if they were even to be caught in the same room together. They wouldn't work with him even if he begged them to! Their unsullied honor, moral superiority, and righteous indignation makes even the idea unthinkable!

But the minute he calls them over to discuss raising the debt ceiling and leaving the door open for other matters, they fall over themselves in a rush to be the first to deal with him! To collaborate with him! Yea, to collude and conspire with him!!!

We can just start calling them the Vichy-crats!

Maybe if the Republicans/leadership in congress had done something besides attack him weekly, given some support against the democrats and media, passed some of the items that the people voted for, did not slow walk every nominee. He would have not have had to go to democrats. These clown could not come together on one thing that would benefit the people and country. They were more interested in making sure trump got nothing

McConnell has done nothing but stop everything the President wants to do. Who was it that stopped health care reform Republican John McCain and what did McConnell say nothing. The Republican leadership in congress have done nothing but obstruct and attack trump and they are surprised he made a deal with democrats. Who is keeping the Trump/Russia BS alive in congress Republicans they control the committees. Have they looked at Clinton,Comey, Lynch, hell no. Have they questioned the SC Mueller and his disregard for USC 18 CFR 45, 600 no. In fact they are encouraging him to keep after trump. These republicans in congress along with their leadership is a joke. These clowns should not be in charge of anything and most likley will not be after 2018

What a low opinion you must have of President Trump.

That's simply not true. Everybody is quick to tout Trump's deal-making skills. However, Trump is also known for being frugal and making pragmatic decisions that benefit everyone.

How does working with S/P benefit everyone, except the nutty kooks that make up the Dem base?

I think Trump is playing a smart game here. He is under no illusions about the Demon Rat leadership. But he also knows he can give them a temporary victory and hopefully rouse the Republicans from their drowsy strolls.

Problem being the republicans extended the debt ceiling out to 18 months with spending cuts and the demrats get 3 months with no spending cuts; a huge win for the Rat Party at taxpayer expense. This is the art of a demrat deal, nothing else.

This isn’t about DACA. It is a betrayal of taxpayers and giving a huge win to the RAT party.

Agreed. Schumer and Piglosi are the worst of the worst. This is a huge screwing of the taxpayers, conservatives, and the people who put faith in Trump.

One way around the 140 character restriction is to keep replying to yourself until you are finished. Trump does that often. At the end of each tweet and reply you let the readers know where the reply stands by putting 1/3 (1 of 3), 2/3 (2 of 3), etc. at the bottom of the tweet to let readers know there is more. When you are finished your tweets and replies should all line up. It’s annoying but sometimes necessary in order to stop misunderstandings from short tweets.
