They mentioned in the last update that the eye was cloud filled. It is not mentioned this time, so is the eye clear again?
Thank you for keeping these threads going! You’re a life-saver! Literally...
Well hello, dear FRiend. Haven’t seen you in awhile.
Well, I *do* like this post, but will also note that the storm’s position this morning is _exactly_ on the line forecasted by the hurricane center early last evening. So in other words... Irma is tracking as expected thus far.
So at some point Saturday the turn should begin. “When” and “how much” will determine everything.
The latest tracks have me wondering about the Coral Reef Yacht club.
Gonna have a wild weekend!
Local forecast for my AO Sunday night
Heavy rain and strong winds from Hurricane Irma; heavy tropical rainfall will lead to flooding
Winds from the north at 79 MPH with gusts to 116.

1/5 vehicles going S on I75 at Perry, GA is a bucket truck
I remember Hurricane Georges was predicted to take the same northerly turn near Florida and it didn’t turn as forecasted. It kept on trucking right thru Cuba and the strait into the Gulf of Mexico before a Florida Panhandle landfall.
America the Good is strong.
The friendship, camaraderie and smiles among all is heartwarming.
Up yours, MSM
This is one way to get people to leave Miami Beach
http://miami.cbslocal.com/2017/09/08/south-beach-a-virtual-ghost-town-ahead-of-irma/
“The mayor said people who live in highrises hoping to stay are finding that wont be the case. Building managers are turning off the water, air conditioning and power to encourage people to leave and seek shelter on the mainland.
We just want to make sure that people understand that you need to leave Miami Beach, said Mayor Levine.
People who do plan to stay should know that Miami Beach will not be putting their first responders out during the storm to assist those in trouble.”
Maybe an odd question. How quickly after the hurricane passes would you expect roads heading back into Orlando to be packed with people returning? Do people rush back, or do they come back in a staggered fashion?
Also, if someone had a flight scheduled back to Orlando wednesday night, would you expect there to be difficulty with that, assuming no major damage to the airport?
If you’re in a mandatory evac zone and stay put, be sure to write your SSN on an arm & a leg with permanent marker.
Hopes, thoughts, and prayers for those in the path.
My sister bought a condo in Gulfport, Mississippi half a block from the coast just a month before Katrina hit. Katrina took it down to ground level. Not even a brick was left.
Camille may have even been worse. I remember the story of a survivor who floated over the town of Pass Christian and never saw a building or a tree or a telephone pole. Back in 1969, before the days of satellite phones, those of us upstate were in the dark with regard to what was happening after the power went out on the coast. It was an eerie and hopeless feeling. Wind gusts from Camille exceeded 200 mph. We were more than 200 miles inland (Greenwood, MS) and still had 90 mph winds.
If you are in the path, and conditions are predicted to be bad, consider retreating inland if you still can and if it is still feasible.
Hopes, thoughts, and prayers.
Bad luck follows me wherever I go. :-(
the eye wall seems to have deteriorated some
Hurricane watch just posted for Hernando County as of 6:45PM
A little info please. We are new to the south thus hurricanes. We live in Bluffton SC, about fifteen miles inland and have been unsure what to do. Just a few minutes ago a mandatory evacuation was ordered for the Beaufort county barrier islands, at 10 am tomorrow, Hilton Head, Dafuskie, Fripp, etc but not for Bluffton. What does this mean, is the projection again up the east coast?
Okay...I’m really getting tired of the TV folks saying ALL of Florida is going to get hit and then showing a map that leaves off my Emerald Coast. It’s bad enough to always be the “on the other side of the map” insert, but are we not Florida too? Pensacola? Navarre? Destin? Ft. Walton? The color hurricane cones don’t include us, so why not say “MOST of Florida will be affected, but not those lucky ducks in the Panhandle.”?
Pinellas County ordering evac for Zone B now.
