Dangerous Category 5 Hurricane Irma had a devastating impact on islands in the Caribbean.
Hurricane and Storm surge watches were issued Thursday morning for South Florida. The Florida Keys began evacuating visitors and residents, followed by flood zones in Miami and Miami Beach. Sarasota FL declared a local state of emergency Thursday morning.
Polk County FL Sheriff Grady Judd said Wednesday that law enforcement authorities would check the identities of people who turn up at shelters--and take to jail anyone found to have an active arrest warrant. If you go to a shelter for Irma and you have a warrant, well gladly escort you to the safe and secure shelter called the Polk County Jail... If you have a warrant, turn yourself in to the jail its a secure shelter. Judd also posted that sex offenders and sex predators would not be admitted to the shelters. "We cannot and we will not have innocent children in a shelter with sexual offenders & predators. Period." Judd's statements unleashed a liberal firestorm via Twitter.

They are also in a studio at a hotel in South Beach. If you watch his tv show, the beach behind him is actually the beach.
That studio may not exist in 4 days.
I’m guilty, too. Sorry...
One thing I’m sure the Governoer is aware of is the two laneing of the trunpike probably needs to be expedited to three or four both North and South in many areas.
We are lucky we have the best Governor in decades, Gov.Rick Scott. he’s a true manager and runs the state as it should be run.
He even thought of things like suspending tolls on all toll roads which expedites flow much better he’s on the ball.
Prayers up for you, your DD and families. Keep us posted.
“Samaritans Purse is working Harvey, now Irma, too. :-)”
Bless Franklin Graham!! (Did you ever read his autobiography, “Rebel With A Cause”? It’s great. He started down a wrong path and sure did turn his life around.)
I guess anything is possible. This storm has changed a lot about what we know about cat 5 storms.
I haven't seen any models predicting that. What models are you looking at?
It’ll be interesting to see where Rush is broadcasting from today.
Preparing for the worst up here in upstate SC. I find some around us are not all that worried because “nothing like that happens up here”.
Not the end of the world talking politics on a political webstie. But IMHO its better to do it after the storm and not on this thread.
Agreed... Keys will have several areas that will be difficult to survive.
thanks very much Jane, the info on here is second to none we are so lucky to have FR,NN,JimRob here for emergency events like this one.
I lived in Pembroke Pines in the late 80’s - early 90’s.
7 miles inland from Hollywood and 7 feet above sea level.
“Are you descended from the religious side or the adventurer portion of the Pilgrim Fathers?”
From the “Saints” side (Wm. Brewster); not “Strangers”.
Re the theological discussion, in keeping with the requests that thread thread be only hurricane related, I’ll stop there. ;)
I haven’t read that...but I will! Thanks for the tip! :-)
Looking at the spaghetti models on weather underground they definitely trend more towards the Naples Fort Myers side at this point
Has anyone considered Rte. 19 (I think it’s also Rte. 98 for a while) on the west side? My niece is going to the panhandle via that route and it looks pretty clear. Not interstate, but maybe that’s not a bad thing.
That studio may not exist in 4 days.
Sady, you may be right. ESPN has a broadcast facility at the Clevelander Hotel on South Beach, literally in the middle of that now-threatened tourist area. The wind, heavy rain and storm surge damage could make access to thatt studio impossible until the South Beach area is cleaned up--and who knows how well those Art Deco buildings built between 1923 and 1943 will hold up to this storm.
As for Rush Limbaugh, it's likely he will leave very soon. Don't be surprised that he broadcasts from the WABC radio studios (aka the EIB Building) in New York City for the next few weeks at minimum.
Itll be interesting to see where Rush is broadcasting from today.

He’s not. He announced yesterday that Steyn would be subbing.
My wife and I lived on Sugarloaf Key for 10 years from 1998 while I was working for the DoD in Key West - hurricanes Georges and Wilma were the worst during that time.
