Yikes. Hope they all come out alive.
Had an old friend who grew up in Key West, lived through the “35 ‘cane. He saw the devastation, the bodies draped over trees, and was adamant about getting out of the way of any and every hurricane. Taught me well, especially about storm surges, which are far more dangerous than most people know.
Water vapor sat loop showing last three hours of growth.

Crap
Crockett’s rules are just a guideline on how not to trigger Floridians. Violate them at your own risk.
As expected when it got over warm water again, but oh my.........
She’s not blowing up that big right now. At 5am the max winds were 121 and now they’re 125.
That’s not that much of an increase from when it was riding the coast of Cuba. It will definitely intensify in the next several hours, though.
Sorry, but I bulk at some exaggerated rhetoric. This hurricane is bad enough without it.
Thank you. I love living near the coast (can’t afford it now of course) but would have to be elevated enough to avoid storm surge. All theoretical of course.
It’s actually very stupid that houses can be built right on the beach. How do they get insurance coverage, I wonder.
This is just humor, that’s all, feeling a little nervous thought we could use a laugh... I have no rules. I am Florida.
Wow. That’s impressive. Thanks for the information fatima!
A slow start, perhaps, but it’s gonna round that corner.
So, it’s gaining strength but expected right?
Yikes :(
Praise God.
Great list!
I’m ready neighbor, you ready?
I hope everyone stays safe and I do not want to sound blase’ but really? This is FLORIDA. They’ve been hit by Cat 5 and Cat 4 before Irma. Irma is going to cause a lot of things to break up and blow away and a lot of flooding. However some people act as if this storm is going to flatten the entire state into oblivion. I find the hysteria a bit much.
People had plenty of warning, hopefully they sided with caution.
PS.
My comments were not directed at you KC ..Just an observation from reading comments all over the internet and seeing the media reports.
Water vapor is energy transferred from the ocean to the atmosphere. When it becomes water moisture again, it releases its bound up energy.
Is it still a cat 3?? Max winds still 121 MPH?
NYC reporting...
Winds are 125, Cat 3, down from Cat 4. Cuba weakened it. Forecast to become a Cat 4 again.
Look at water vapor loop. That represents potential energy that will later today be transferred into wind. She just more than doubled available water vapor. Ie - Available energy.
Love your rules. I am here in Michigan where half the state ends up in Florida after retirement. Not much we can do for the old folks who chose to move away permanently from their children. I told my parents that if they even considered such a thing i would slash their tires. Them being away for 5 months out of the year was quite enough for me.
