Dangerous Category 5 Hurricane Irma had a devastating impact on islands in the Caribbean.
Hurricane and Storm surge watches were issued Thursday morning for South Florida. The Florida Keys began evacuating visitors and residents, followed by flood zones in Miami and Miami Beach. Sarasota FL declared a local state of emergency Thursday morning.
Polk County FL Sheriff Grady Judd said Wednesday that law enforcement authorities would check the identities of people who turn up at shelters--and take to jail anyone found to have an active arrest warrant. If you go to a shelter for Irma and you have a warrant, well gladly escort you to the safe and secure shelter called the Polk County Jail... If you have a warrant, turn yourself in to the jail its a secure shelter. Judd also posted that sex offenders and sex predators would not be admitted to the shelters. "We cannot and we will not have innocent children in a shelter with sexual offenders & predators. Period." Judd's statements unleashed a liberal firestorm via Twitter.

I won’t be even a bit surprised if she goes back up to a CAT 5.....she’s going to have a feast in the warm waters.
I second the motion!
Irma is blowing up big right now in infrared while still on the coast of Cuba. Probably cause the sun has been heating everything up this time of day. If she ramps up to cat 5 again while still near Cuba, she is once again in control of the steering. At a Cat 5, Irma is making the climate now around her.
They do.They have men come in from Florida to go out on storm from PA.Not this time. They stayed home to take care of their Families and Houses.
I’ve been in that house. It’s two stories, made of very solid coral rock and , as the article points out, is 16 feet above sea level. It survived 200 mph winds and a 22-foot storm surge in the 1935 Key West Hurricane,
Take those kitties upstairs! And also, take in every other cat on the island.
I third it!
....”At a Cat 5, Irma is making the climate now around her”....
From all I’ve learned she will have the say what she’ll do and where! LOLOL
Wonder how much she chewed up Cuba?....Still very little out there visual.
Pythonado!
If you want to know where a Cat 5 is going, you are going to have to ask it.
The problem that Hemingway House faces is that the projections are for the wave tops to hit 40 feet in some models. If that holds true, it will not fare well. I hope everyone remains safe in spite of the choices made.
bkmk
Steve and Kati are safe!!! They managed to get on a plane to Puerto Rico just ahead of Jose. Another friend has an apartment there where they can stay.
Puerto Rico had some power outages from Irma, but not nearly as much damage as St Maarten, and it’s further out of the path of Jose.
GOOD!
Thank you for letting us know.
Didn’t see the dog walker but as it is a live cam, I wouldn’t catch it if he had gone inside.
I understand some of the staff stayed at Hemingway house because of the cats, both from the house and nearby feral.
How can I say this.... I know people love their pets and animals in general. I would think that loading a dozen in my car and saving some of the six toed Hemingway cats would be more loving than drowning with them.
I would be surprised if it went back to a cat 5
What is it now a very weak cat 3?
It will most likely kick back up to a cat 4 which is bad enough.
My stepsons were in the Dominican Republic with their dad and got out the day before Irma hit that island. The Canadian Charter company sent extra planes down to evacuate everyone.
It’s leaving the coast a bit ahead of scheduled isn’t it?
The models had it starting take off from Cuba a little past the tip of FLA.
