Calling somebody an illegal alien should never be the wording that you use. Not because it’s not “politically correct” but because those two words completely dehumanize the situation that these people are in and the hardships they have endured.
We don’t call people who come to the U.S. via the legal channels “legal aliens” we call them Americans. They gave up their old lives in order to work for a better life in the United States. We honor that commitment by treating them like human beings and giving them rights. Shouldn’t that liberty apply to everyone?
At the end of the day, every single undocumented immigrant in this country is a person. Can we all agree that? Which means they can’t be illegal. No human being is illegal. And just like no human being can be illegal, no human being can be alien.
Calling immigrants illegal aliens makes it very easy to see them differently for yourself. It allows people to dehumanize them and make them seem like some kind threatening population. Immigration reform is one of the largest human rights challenges of our time. Without knowledge of them being undocumented, every single one of these immigrants is a member of our community just trying to make their lives better. Where I come from, we try and help members of our community not force them out.
Immigrants are people, undocumented or not. Let’s actually treat them as people, in words and in actions. It’s the human thing to do.

While they are here they are illegal aliens.
After they return to their own country they will no longer be called illegal aliens, they will get their “human” identity or whatever the concern is back.
I recognize they are humans, I know for a fact that some are really decent people, and I also know some are evil criminals. That is the issue, our immigration laws are the only way to attempt to sort the good from the bad people that want to come here. If we don’t strictly enforce our immigration laws we are allowing evil criminals to walk right in without knowing where they came from, what their purpose here is, and what kind of person they are. I do not want to take that risk.
Those that support open borders and illegal immigration are not against the term illegal alien for any other reason than it makes it hard for them to BS people and confuse the illegal aliens with legal immigrants. Without that confusion it would be far harder for them to label people against illegal immigration as racists.

Reminds me of one of the first questions DJT got when his campaign started. Press critter criticized him for using the term, “anchor babies”, and told him he should say something that isn’t so mean. Trump thought for a couple seconds then said, “No. I think I’ll continue saying ‘anchor babies’.”
I laughed out loud, and it reaffirmed my support for him. Love that man!

The law distinguishes between "resident aliens" and "non-resident aliens."
Both could be called "legal aliens," rather than "illegal aliens," also a term from the law books.
I notice though, that a lot of sources that don't go with the "undocumented workers" euphemism are using "illegal immigrants," rather than "illegal aliens."
What utter bulls***. Lee Harvey Oswald was certainly an illegal human being when he committed the act of murder against JFK.
An "undocumented immigrant" is someone who was asked for an ID and told the police he left his Green-Card in the dresser drawer at home. So maybe he's an undocumented immigrant while he goes home to fetch it, followed by a stern lecture that's he's supposed to carry it at ALL times, just like it says on the card itself.
Since I do agree with the guy that "alien" sounds like a green man from Mars, even though it is the proper term, I'll compromise on "illegal immigrant".
Now we're supposed to change this because the same crowd of historically ignorant and/or deceptive anti-American trash - who are also behind the attacks on America monuments and other reminders of our heritage and tradition - demand it.
To each and every demand of this crowd who have taken George Orwell's writings on socialist dystopias not as a warning but as a blueprint - we must say "SCREW THEM ALL!"
Legal alien, legal immigrant. Two equivalent statements.

Until they are sworn in as citizens, the "rights" we give them are limited by immigration law, and are limited.

“Criminalien” works just fine.
In a pinch, “Crimigrant” also works, but not as ideal.
We call them immigrants.
Yes, I know the document is the 1799 petition to appeal the Alien & Sedition Act, but it reveals the accepted use of “alien” as well any print of the original act would.

Not too precise...A person cannot be illegal, but a person can be a criminal. When they cross the border, they commit a crime. Criminal alien is more accurate.
I agree. “Illegal Aliens” is a cumbersome term and not really properly descriptive and their alien status is fully legal. “Wetbacks” is a more concise and easily recognized term though it is derivative from the once but no longer normal mode of surreptitious entry.
We call them "resident aliens." We don't call them "Americans" until they naturalize and become citizens.
