This latest forecast from NHC is EXTREMELY scary. Why? Because the storm track takes it directly over the Miami, FL metro area. And that means potentially catastrophic damage to the extremely vulnerable coastline of Miami Beach itself, with the potentially for massive damage from high winds, heavy rains and storm surge. In short, if South Beach suffers very heavy damage the economic hit to the Miami area could last for a decade or more as the Miami Beach area is slowly rebuilt--if at all.

We’ll see if buildings like the Portofino were REALLY designed and built to withstand cat 5 canes.

Welp, considering there will be onshore winds followed by offshore winds there shouldn’t be much erosion. Nothing dredging operations this fall can’t remedy.

And new construction to replace the old will be to the post-Andrew standard. Very expensive. No more slab-on-grade homes in flood plains.

Could knock South Beach back to where it was 40 years ago.

I’m sure glad we’re not on a cruise now.
