I stopped watching network news and Sunday morning talk shows.

My mental health has improved greatly.

I read FR exclusively and even then sometimes have to take a break from all the WaPo and NYT posts some feel necessary to pollute the forum with.

As much as the praise of the self-reliant Texans is deserved, the Federal Government will still need to pump in over $100 billion to help rebuild the devastated area.

Peggy Noonan (that paragon of conservative thinking), tweeted out that this review of Jeff Flake and Dinish D’Souza’a books was well worth the read.
So I read it and laughed all the way through it. The author of this article sees little difference between the 2 authors.
What a great way to look into the mind of the demented elitist writers at the NY Times.

My guess is the Carolinas will get a piece of Irma. The bigger question is will they get a direct hit? It's just too early to say yet. Even then with a small eye 50 miles makes a huge difference in storm intensity.

We have to remember it's those first ten miles of coast line when the storm first hits,if its hitting inland and not cruising along the coast, that really gets a battering.

That's probably a realistic figure when its all added up,increasing the number is the fact that 80% of the homes did not have flood insurance.

Seems the building codes are nothing like what we have in South Florida and the Keys.We build starting at an 11 foot elevation, makes a huge difference in damage to the house.

I stopped watching network news and Sunday morning talk shows.

Doesn't that feel great? I stopped all TV in 2008. Never been better. Get all I need from here on FR and news web sites.

I think the first federal money is 8 billion and than another 6 to follow but one can be sure that’s just for starters. The flooding damage is so vast I doubt it can even be calculated for several weeks.

Leave it to Gateway to really score.
They show the difference between two presidents.
Ozero on the golf course while Louisiana floods, opposed to people lined up on flooded roads to greet President Trump in Houston in the aftermath of Harvey. Zero could care less while Trulmp/Melania were on the scene lending a helping hand and supporting all who helped out in Harvey.

Also, Sharyl Attkinson’s Full Measure: Watch live at 9:30 EST.

She's opening with a pretty incredible report on "Fast and Furious" complete with Holder/Obama coverup, contempt of Congress, and denying documents to Congress. She's interviewing agent Dobson, an ATF whistleblower, he claims he has been discriminated against and transferred 11 times.

Am in Southern Oregon—smoke hanging heavy in the air for many days now.
Btw, it’s 14 not 140 hikers, right?

Update on Houston Area flooding. 1. The greater Houston Area in much larger than the puny communist state of Rode Island, which is squeezed between Texassachusetts and the bankrupt state or Connecticut.

2. The areas of Houston that normally flood during heavy rains, and these rains occur frequently in the Houston area, flooded with water levels higher that those experienced during the average heavy rains. Houston experienced these heavy rains last year, when we had major rain and flooding in west Houston. Some of the Bayous caring last year's rain water from the west side of town to the Houston Channel overflowed in areas of town that have always experienced flooding. Some of these flood prone subdivisions are close to where I live

3. The flooding this year was worse as homes in the Houston area that did not have issues with flooding previously, as in last year, had water in their homes and businesses. These NEW flood victims had minimal water in their homes - 2"-6". But this means removing carpeting. flooring, and wall board. Putting all of this trash on the sidewalk in front of your house and waiting for the City Sanitation Dept. to remove all of this heavy trash. Last year the City Sanitation dept. did a very good job in a very short time, I fully expect the same this year.

4. My subdivision saw very few homes with this minor flooding, however subdivision that I drive through to and from work, subdivisions that I have never seen having any issues with flooding in the past did suffer 2"-6" of water in their homes and businesses.

5. In summary there will be a lot of Houstonians who will be doing some remodeling due to this flood. There are many who have lost homes and apartments and these people will be in need of help for a bit longer possibly as long as six to twelve month.

6. Once we get east of Houston - Beaumont, Port Charles, and east into Louisiana the flooding there is bad and will require mush rebuilding. These areas suffered flooding last year and a major Hurricane a few years back.

We should have cut Iraq up into Kurdistan in the North, give the Sunni part to Syria, and from the Shi'ite side made the Protectorate of Shitstain.

The Biden solution. Sounds great until you get into the details. The Turks, Iran, and Russia would never allow an independent Kurdistan. Would the Iraqi Sunnis want to be part of Syria? And how long would a Shi'a state remain independent of Iran?

Iraq is a viable state because of the oil which is located in the North (Kurd) and the South (Shia). The Iraqi Constitution contains provisions for a relatively autonomous Kurdish state, but the oil revenue is divided among the rest of the country as well.

And exactly how much power and influence does the US have when it comes to dividing up Iraq? Is that something we want to take on?
