NORTH KOREA SENTENCES TWO SOUTH KOREAN JOURNALISTS TO DEATH OVER A BOOK REVIEW
BY SOFIA LOTTO PERSIO ON 8/31/17 AT 11:42 AM
North Koreas Central Court has sentenced two South Korean journalists and two media executives to death for reviewing a book that outlines a sprawling undergound capitalist economy in the secretive Communist state.
In an article on North Korean state media outlet KCNA, a spokesperson for the court said that the bookoriginally published in English and since translated into Koreaninsulted the dignity of North Korea.
It declared that journalists Son Hyo Rim and Yang Ji Howho work for South Korean newspapers Dong-A Ilbo and Chosun Ilboand Kim Jae Ho and Pang Sang Hun, who serve as director general of the two titles respectively, had received a death sentence by the Central Court of the DPRK.
Titled North Korea Confidential: Private Markets, Fashion Trends, Prison Camps, Dissenters and Defectors, the book was written in 2015 by two British journalists, Seoul-based correspondent for the Economist, Daniel Tudor, and Reuters' James Pearson. The authors claim that North Korea's attitude to capitalism is similar to Victorian Britain's approach to sex: "While everybody does it, few publicly admit to its existence."
The South Korean title mocks North Koreas official name of Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea (DPRK), turning it into Capitalist Republic of Korea, a capital offense in Pyongyangs eyes.
On its cover, it features Pyongyangs landmark Ryugyong hotel (also known as the Hotel of Doom) topped by a dollar sign, as three hands hold smartphones displaying a rising stock market graph.

P!
Suggesting capitalism is a death sentence in North Korea.
Can we ship them a bunch more talking heads to make up for their loss?
sort of like a fatwah huh?
channeling the Satanic Verses death sentence
Does the useless and very expensive UN not get involved when countries put innocent people to death?
Reporters who reviewed the book but not the authors? Socialism/liberalism/communism is so illogical.
I don’t think the authors are in custody.........
Yet North Korea is one of the evil, murderous regimes today’s communist/anarchist protest groups honor and support.
If the court was truly just, they would sentence all the Kims to death for crimes against the people and outlaw communism.
Senator Lieawatha from Mass. would feel right at home there.
...a spokesperson for the court said that the book...insulted the dignity of North Korea...
It is impossible to insult something that does not exist.
Dennis Rodman had no comment.
So? I really do not care what North and South Korea do to each other. I do care what they do to us.
North Korea...A perfect paradise for the likes of Nanzi Pewlosi, Marxine Walters and the rest of their subversive ilk. Let’s help ‘em pack!
Well bless your heart! We on TigerLikesRooster's Korea ping list, all of whom take a keen interest in what goes on in that part of the world, are so happy you came to post your opinion!
“Does the useless and very expensive UN not get involved when countries put innocent people to death?”
Only when there is opportunity to poke the the USA in the eye, steal and/or rape.
I guess it’s like a fatwa
But with secret agents armed with VX out to enforce the sentence
So, are the South Korean journalists actually in North Korean custody or were they sentenced in abstentia?
Precious. I presume you are a Korean citizen, not a US citizen, thus more concerned with them than the lives of Americans? That is fine, but don’t drag us into your problems. If North Korea attacks the US, we should nuke them without mercy. Attack South Korea, nope. Solve your own problems. We’ve shed enough American blood on that hell hole. How about we fix the problem more directly by cutting off imports from China until they fix North Korea? That is a more direct way to solve the problem. And, oh we might hurt American consumers? So. Better that then 10s of thousands of American lives.
