My memory tells me just such a scene was part of a long ago TV show "Police Story". Two guys bust into a bar intending to rob it. Only problem is it's a cop hangout. Immediately they are confronted with enough fire power to again invade Normandy.

In any case that is what I recall. Perhaps another Freeper can confirm or correct. Is Joseph Wambaugh on here? He would know.
