Editorial: Harvey should be a warning to Trump that climate change is a global threat
Los Angeles Times ^ | August 30, 2017 | Times Editorial Board

How refreshing it is when the president directs our attention to the words of experts — people who ascertain facts, study the issues, dissect the causes of problems, and put their biases and suppositions aside to figure out solutions.

If Trump himself were to consult the experts — such as, you know, climate scientists — he would learn that global warming is real. He’d also learn that although warming did not cause Hurricane Harvey, it certainly makes such storms stronger, more unpredictable and quicker to intensify.

As difficult as it might be for someone so incapable of introspection and reevaluation, the president needs to understand that he has subscribed to fake science, and that he must alter his course. We remain optimistic that other actors will continue to change their behaviors to help confront the problem. But this would be a far more winnable battle if the world wasn’t also forced to fight ignorance in the White House, and a president content to whistle past the flooded graveyard.

I guess there were no violent storms before the advent of SUV’s and coal-fired power plants. Pure BS.

No. There have been many storms stronger than Harvey's Cat. 4 status. If what they say is true, Harvey would have to be a Cat. 6-8, if there was such a thing.

This is just Fake News = Hate News.

Does anyone remember the 1900 Galveston hurricane that essentially flattened the town and may have killed somewhere between 6,000 and 12,000 people?

Last week there was an eclipse and it’s timing and coverage were precisely predicted. That’s because the science is well understood.

If some of the global warming predictions starting coming true, people would believe them, but usually, they’re wildly wrong, because they don’t know.

Think of the scenario from the past 4 days if all fossil fuels had been forbidden as demanded from the left. You would see NO citizens with their boats (being pulled by a truck) performing citizen rescues. Exactly how would the National Guard send in thousands of troops immediately to the situation? Hope for solar energy during a week’s worth of pouring rain? How are all the generators powered when the infrastructure is down? Wifi via wind power?

Think of how Houston can be ultimately cleaned up and rebuilt without fossil fuels.

did global warming create the 2 high pressure systems?

Yes, Gaia, in all her global warming wisdom, but in her senility, has been forgetting to send disaster hurricanes to the USA for the last 10 years or so. Well, to make up for that, she told those 2 high pressure systems to do a job by stalling Harvey over Houston.

These People think that there is something that Mankind can do to stop a Hurricane.

Yes, spend a lot of money. On what? Who cares, it's the thought that matters.

If the billions of dollars wasted on Climate Change studies had instead been put into the US infrastructure, that infrastructure would have been better able to handle a stalled Cat 3 hurricane on land. So can these experts explain how climate change caused the Hurricane to stall ?

Also, if you have to choose between a natural explanation and a supernatural explanation for a predicament, go with what you know. (Hume)
The plaintiff always has the burden of proof. As usual, no evidence—just bad weather and more pulpit-pounding from the Church of Climate Change, CA branch.

I have a cousin in El Lay always blowing off like the Times, on their shared religion: “Global Warming”. As long as they don’t want my money, they can do what they want. But there’s the rub ...

The whole point of the global warming hoax is to take away our property and our rights. It has no other reason to be.

I love these shallow minded “experts” thinking: Climate Change, therefore... return the world to pre industrial Age economy, technology, and what... monarchy? Very little thinking going on here.

To test this, next time a Climate Changer wants to argue the subject, turn the tables on him. Ask,”Ok,what then do you suggest?” I guarantee they will have no answer other than some meaningless platitudes, and empty technobabble about renewable energy sources. Simply not gonna happen.

two things to blame:

1. no evacuation plan and order by the local officials

2. in and around Houston, in quite a number of areas, the land is sinking - a huge amount in many decades - making flooding more of an issue in every major storm.
