Hurricane Harvey Live Thread Part II
Various ^ | 8/26/2017 | Various

Posted on 08/26/2017 4:39:50 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Hurricane Harvey made landfall near Rockport TX about 10:00PM CDT Friday night. Top sustained winds were 130mph. Rockport High School sustained heavy damage when a portion of the roof collapsed. A senior housing complex collapsed. The Rockport courthouse sustained major damage with “a cargo trailer halfway in the building.” Multiple tornadoes reported in the Houston/Galveston areas. There are reports of scattered structural fires and a shooting was reported in Corpus Christi. Residents along the San Bernard River were advised to evacuate and most TX Gulf coast counties are under flash flood watches.

Many locations are under a boil-water notice. Power outages are widespread. President Donald Trump promptly granted a Disaster Declaration to Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s request. More than 700 members of the Texas Army and Air National Guards, Texas State Guard and the Texas Military Department have been activated and are positioning themselves throughout the state ahead of Hurricane Harvey and its anticipated landfall later this week. Ahead of the storm, FEMA sent supplies from its warehouse in Fort Worth to a staging point at Randolph Air Force Base near San Antonio.

I’ve been a way for a while. Did Houston and/or Harris Cty politicos ever call for an evac? Just curious.

The only orders I have heard are shelter in place. Roads are impassable and there are air SAR occurring now. If there have been location-specific evac orders, I have not heard them.

no Evacs

storm hit well south..rain was always the big story for Houston

someone should dig up that twitter post from two days ago about what Harris county insiders where saying(10,000’s home flooded) but didn’t want the info to get out to avoid a panic...which was debunked

its coming true

I keep thinking of the comment by the Houston mayor- “This isn’t the kind of water you run from”...

Interesting how fear provokes people to say things on live air that they would probably be fired for under normal conditions . . . the commentator said, “Good Lord, help us!”

. . . and some say that God is not real. Well, He sure is to the residents of Houston today.

I echo his statement . . . “May God relieve these people and calm their spirits!”

Checking in from just south of Spring and north of Houston. Its been raining all night--a pretty healthy rain from the sound of it.

Back yard is a lake. About 2-3 times the size it usually gets during a really heavy downpour. Porch next to house is damp, but basically dry (under a roof). Intersection just south of me is listed as being underwater, but I haven't left the house since Friday night.

the short range HRRR model, which has been excellent, continues the horror most of the day

with a slight east push of the bands over time..you can see the last band just west of houston

also we need to start paying attention to the bigger DAMS(ie Conroe)

“Trust my local officials? On a cold day in Hades.”

Trust yourself and your like minded neighbors. I have lived through several major natural disasters and am constantly amazed at the people who think .gov will “save” them - while they do nothing to be prepared.

Max gusts 120 to 130 mph in Rockport/Port Aransas area as it was a CAT 4 at landfall. Some speculation there may have been mini-vortices in the eyewall as the damage looks like an F3 tornado.

Larger issue is probably up between Austin and the coast.

Colorado river is expected to rise 50 ft.

It’ll take a long time to subside.

The way this hurricane is running it’s acting like a giant pump between the Gulf of Mexico and interior of Texas, just pumping the water inland. (Sharknado only worse)
