The National Hurricane Center has issued an advisory instructing Texas residents along the Gulf of Mexico coast to "rush" their storm preparations as Hurricane Harvey "rapidly" intensifies.

All preparations for residents along the middle Texas coast should be completed today, the National Hurricane Center said. The storm is expected to make landfall around 1 a.m. Saturday.

The coastal city of Corpus Christi has so far not implemented mandatory evacuations, but Mayor Joe McComb called for people to leave in the "strongest possible terms."

She had a friend south of the Colorado that lost everything in some flooding about a year ago.

Probably along one of the creek where homes were built to close years ago. The city has been buying the property owners out and not allowing rebuilding (along with lack of flood insurance) in that area.

I was in Navy. Arrived 2 days before it hit. Seabees were brought in from Gulfport to clean up. I had just finished AE ALL school. Was sent TAD to the Bees for 2 weeks. They commissioned a Seabee unit. I stayed with them 17 months. Went back to the squadron for a while then cross rated to the Seabees. Celia was good for me.

The married enlisted housing was severely damaged.

It was just like Harvey. Formed in the Gulf. But Celia was a Cat 1. This one is much worse. I pray for them all. I don’t think my house will flood. I am concerned about electricity being off for a long time.

We’re in Texarkana and tommorow will drive on up to Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

Just read at weather.com Celia was Cat 3. Up until now it’s always been said to be Cat1. There was a wind guage at the airport that was blown off the roof. The final reading was 212 mph.

How "typical" is it for Austin to get storms with feet of rain and 10' storm surges?

I was in Katrina - protect your property best you can and get the hell out.

Why? Because of a big storm every decade or so?

I would love to live down in Port Aransas, even now.

The weather channel says winds can get to 150mph around Corpus. I pray for people’s safety.
